Description

The company is Africa's all-in-one financial platform, serving around 20 million businesses and individuals each month with payments, banking, credit, cross-border transfers and business management tools.

As Nigeria's largest merchant acquirer, the company handles most of the country's point-of-sale (POS) transactions, processing over $250 billion in digital payment value a year through its subsidiaries.

This Principal Mobile Engineer role covers POS terminals across several platforms, including mobile apps for scheduling repairs and maintenance. Most terminals run on Android Native today, but the company is expanding into more platforms, so your knowledge of cross-platform tools such as Flutter, C and JavaScript will matter.

You will help set the direction of the POS product line, work with cross-functional teams, and keep the technical vision aligned with the company's wider goals.

Responsibilities

  • Architect POS terminal solutions that are secure, scalable and fast, and that integrate with a range of hardware and payment systems.
  • Write and maintain architecture documents and diagrams so every POS platform is documented and current.
  • Decide on POS terminal software design, covering payment technology integration, EMV standards and hardware compatibility.
  • Lead the development of POS applications.
  • Tune system performance and security, with a focus on payment processing and EMV protocols.
  • Join planning sessions with product and engineering to make sure solutions fit market needs and business goals.
  • Review code and set standards for mobile and embedded development, particularly Android Native.
  • Set and enforce software engineering practices across the POS teams to raise efficiency and developer productivity.
  • Keep POS terminal products and apps stable and reliable by monitoring performance and fixing problems as they come up.
  • Mentor engineers so they build their skills and contribute to the technical vision.
  • Take part in hiring by screening engineers with POS, mobile and embedded experience.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in system design, architecture and development, specifically in the POS terminal domain.
  • Strong Android Native development skills in Java or Kotlin, with a deep grasp of Android-based POS terminal solutions.
  • Experience with cross-platform mobile development such as Flutter is a plus. Familiarity with other POS application platforms, such as C or JavaScript, is also a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of EMV (Europay, Mastercard and Visa) security protocols, including chip-based transactions, encryption and key management.
  • Experience integrating POS hardware such as card readers, PIN pads, printers and other peripherals.
  • Deep understanding of payment systems architecture, including integration with payment processors and gateways.
  • Knowledge of software quality assurance and how to apply it to financial systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex system interactions and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Clear communication, able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills, with a focus on mentoring engineers and driving process improvements in the team.

Conditions

Equal opportunity employer that values diversity and works to keep the environment inclusive for all employees and candidates.

Benefits

  • Culture that puts people first, gives every opinion weight and treats team members with care.
  • Learning environment focused on knowledge sharing, training and regular internal technical talks.
  • Attractive salary, pension, health insurance, annual bonus and other benefits.
