Description

This is a Principal EO Signal Image Processing Engineer role in the Launch Vehicles business unit of the company's Space Systems group, based in Chandler, Arizona.

You would join the electro-optical infrared modeling, algorithm and simulation group, which supports the Seeker Integrated Product Team.

You will work alongside senior engineers on building and checking models, image processing algorithms and simulation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Build physics-based models of seeker hardware using EO/IR phenomenology, feeding high-fidelity seeker simulations for tactical performance assessment and flight test support.
  • Design and implement image and signal processing algorithms, add them to the simulation framework, and run trade studies and sensitivity analyses on performance and robustness.
  • Write and maintain modeling and analysis tools in C/C++, Python and MATLAB for HPC and lab use, and improve them over time.
  • Carry out modeling and algorithm work so it finishes on time against accelerated program schedules.
  • Work with GNC, systems, software, firmware and hardware teams to plan modeling and simulation work, flow down requirements and define verification approaches.
  • Support HWIL, lab and real-time testing, match simulation predictions to test and flight data, and help update models.
  • Present technical results to internal stakeholders, including at design and readiness reviews.
  • Uphold process discipline and help improve modeling standards, coding practices and configuration management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math or a related field from an accredited university plus 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years, or a PhD plus 1 year.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance at the time you apply, current and within scope.
  • Experience with image and signal processing and writing algorithms in C, C++, MATLAB or Python.
  • Experience developing and validating EO/IR models against hardware test results.
  • Working knowledge of optical system simulation, EO/IR imaging principles and radiometric transfer.
  • Experience building and running simulations on high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
  • Ability to work through technical problems on your own, pull together results and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Preferred: MS or PhD in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math or a related discipline.
  • Preferred: Active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance at the time you apply, current and within scope.
  • Preferred: Experience with modeling and simulation for missile, hypersonic or other high-reliability systems, including knowledge of the related standards.
  • Preferred: Prior work on DoD missile defense programs and their performance and verification frameworks.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with hardware/software integration and modeling of physics-based or real-time systems, including HWIL environments.
  • Preferred: Proficiency in C/C++ development and Linux, MATLAB and Python analysis and prototyping toolchains, software change and configuration management tools, and real-time programming practices.
  • Preferred: Experience with scene generators such as MSLRAD or similar EO/IR scene generation tools.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated experience restructuring algorithms for HPC performance, such as vectorization, parallelization or distributed computing.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with software and firmware development lifecycles, algorithm implementation and verification processes.
