Description

The Principal Engineer, Data Science role sits on the Impact Analytics team inside the company's Transformation Command Center.

You will work as a senior individual contributor, owning key initiatives and acting as the technical lead on important analytics projects across the business.

You will work with Consumer, Network, and Strategy teams to turn very large, complex datasets into production-ready predictive models and strategies that point executive leadership to high-value financial opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Query, clean, merge, and manipulate large structured and unstructured datasets in big data systems, using SQL and Python, without step-by-step guidance.
  • Build, validate, and deploy supervised and unsupervised machine learning models and time series forecasts for complex, unclear business problems.
  • Lead analytics projects from scoping and data extraction through modeling, testing, validation, and presenting results to executives.
  • Create dashboards and visual reports in Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau, Grafana, or similar tools that show model output as key executive metrics.
  • Act as a technical advisor to the Consumer, Network, and Strategy teams, turning their business challenges into data science work and recommending actions to leadership.
  • Test edge cases, enforce model governance and validation standards, and keep adding current AI, ML, and forecasting methods to the team's shared repository.

Requirements

  • You have a bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or another related quantitative field, or 4 or more years of work experience.
  • You have 6+ years of relevant experience, gained through work and/or military service.
  • You write advanced Python and SQL code on your own for complex data extraction, feature engineering, and statistical analysis.
  • You have a track record of building, validating, and deploying machine learning and time series forecasting models in enterprise business settings.
  • You have strong experience with data visualization tools and libraries such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau, and Grafana.
  • You can manage technical project lifecycles and complex data pipelines independently and present analytical findings to management.
  • Even better: a master's degree, or 4+ years of hands-on experience in data science, advanced analytics, or predictive modeling.
  • Even better: a master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline, or an MBA with a strong technical background.
  • Even better: 5+ years of progressive technical experience in data science, advanced analytics, or quantitative consulting.
  • Even better: experience with big data frameworks such as Spark, Splunk, and Hadoop, plus cloud analytics platforms.
  • Even better: advanced skills in areas such as deep learning, NLP, causal inference, recommendation systems, or time series frameworks like Prophet, ARIMA, and LSTM.
  • Even better: experience independently leading cross-functional analytics projects in telecommunications, pricing, sustainability, or customer experience.
  • You are encouraged to apply even if you do not meet every 'even better' item.
