Description

This is a hybrid role: you will report to the Seattle, WA or Warren, MI office three days per week.

The Physical and Virtual Test Platforms group builds the foundation that the company's engineering teams use to prepare, run and analyze physical and virtual tests for vehicle programs. The platform covers physical test benches and assets, hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop setups, automation, simulation, virtualization, execution services and day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior technical authority and system architect for the platform, setting its long-term direction.
  • Define the target architecture and multi-year roadmap across physical test, virtual test, automation, simulation, test assets, execution services and platform operations.
  • Lead cross-organization work that improves reuse, reliability, scalability, asset readiness, test throughput and adoption by customers.
  • Set the interfaces, APIs, ownership boundaries and decision rights so physical and virtual environments share common interfaces, portable workloads, reusable test capabilities and consistent operating practices.
  • Set AI strategy and investment priorities, finding where AI-assisted workflows, agents and analytics can improve test execution, asset readiness, operations and engineering productivity.
  • Lead complex investigations and root-cause analyses that cross software, infrastructure, network, physical test, virtual test and operations boundaries.
  • Mentor Staff and Principal Engineers and emerging technical leaders, and set design review and engineering practice standards.
  • Work with engineering, program, operations, supplier and executive stakeholders, both inside and outside the group, to align solutions with wider company needs, explain technical risks and tradeoffs, and drive decisions.
  • Stay hands-on through architecture reviews, investigations, prototypes and resolution of critical issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years in software, systems, platform, infrastructure, test automation, simulation or related engineering, including production-grade systems.
  • Proven record architecting complex, interdependent platforms or ecosystems that span several engineering teams, technology domains and operating environments.
  • Experience leading multi-team or cross-functional technical programs from concept through production and continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of modern engineering practice: source control, continuous integration and delivery, automated testing, technical documentation, observability and performance analysis.
  • Strong communication and influence skills with technical, cross-functional, supplier and executive audiences.
  • Preferred: a master's degree or equivalent experience in one of the fields listed above.
  • Preferred: background in automotive software, software-defined vehicles, hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, simulation, virtualization, vehicle integration or physical test infrastructure, with a record of integrating physical and virtual environments.
  • Preferred: demonstrated ability to evaluate and apply approved generative AI, AI agents and LLM-based tools in production engineering work, with sound judgment on validation, data protection, safety, security and measurable business value.
  • Preferred: hands-on experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructure, networking, identity and access management, security, storage, databases, distributed workflow systems or comparable platform technologies.
  • Preferred: proven ability to set technical vision, influence across organizations, represent the company in cross-industry engagements and build long-term technical depth in a team.
