Description

The company builds and connects technologies that help protect people, property and places, with a focus on safer communities, schools, hospitals, businesses and nations.

The company is a long-established global maker of professional mobile communications systems, with a large base of installed systems. Its main business is designing and building mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for government and public safety customers.

The NYC engineering team mainly supports state and local government public safety infrastructure and subscriber design and implementation for New York City projects. The office is in downtown Brooklyn, a short walk from major subway hubs.

As the Presales Systems Engineer intern, you will work closely with communication systems engineers who design radio solutions from concept through implementation, based on customer requirements. Those engineers meet with customers to understand their needs and design the best fit. Senior engineers help colleagues build individual and group skills, including mentoring junior engineers. Engineers are expected to act professionally and take charge of their own professional and technical growth.

Responsibilities

  • Work with sales, product development and project management to build technical strategies and write proposals that present the company's solution to customers.
  • Help design and plan customer solutions using advanced technologies, and provide technical support through the presales phase.
  • Handle coverage and antenna site selection, frequency planning, interference analysis, system architecture design, equipment selection, proposal writing and presenting solutions to customers.
  • Help carry out solutions as they were originally designed.
  • Own all technical aspects of the assigned project from award until system acceptance.
  • Support implementation planning, system acceptance testing, coverage testing and system staging.
  • Keep sales staff and customers informed about the company's latest technology and how it fits customer needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program, with an expected graduation date on or after December 2027. You will return to school in fall 2027.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely. Employer work permit sponsorship is not offered for this role.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated, and able to stay focused under pressure.
  • Preferred: experience working with customers.
  • Preferred: experience or knowledge of radio systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless, broadband, microwave and/or networking.
  • Preferred: experience or knowledge of communications networks such as MPLS, Ethernet and TCP/IP.
  • Preferred: certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA and/or Amateur Radio/HAM.
