OpenStack Engineer (m/w/d) – Winterthur Area

The role is a senior OpenStack engineering and operations position for enterprise environments. You will handle hard troubleshooting, control-plane work, architecture checks, performance tuning, capacity planning and high-priority incidents. As the top technical escalation point, you will guide L2 colleagues and help keep cloud platform services stable, scalable and improving.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support OpenStack cloud platforms at an advanced level.
• Lead root cause analysis and complex troubleshooting across OpenStack services and the infrastructure beneath them.
• Keep the control plane healthy and make sure the platform stays resilient and ready for operations.
• Run multi-region and multi-availability-zone (AZ) setups so that services stay reliable and can scale.
• Review architecture designs and recommend changes for performance, capacity and operations.
• Serve as the escalation point for critical incidents and hard operational problems.
• Coach L2 engineers through advanced day-2 scenarios.
• Write and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and best practices.
• Work with infrastructure, Linux, Kubernetes, networking and storage teams to keep the whole platform stable.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience running and supporting enterprise OpenStack environments.
• Deep knowledge of OpenStack architecture, operations and troubleshooting.
• Solid grasp of Linux, virtualization, networking, storage and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with performance analysis, capacity planning, high availability and resilience.
• A track record of solving complex technical problems and leading incident response.
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• German at B2 level or higher is mandatory. You will take part in technical discussions, incident coordination, service reviews, change management and daily work with German-speaking stakeholders, customers and operations teams.
• Preferred: advanced OpenStack platform certification.
• Preferred: Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) or an equivalent cloud certification.
• Preferred: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
• Preferred: Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS).
• Preferred: further security, network, storage or compute infrastructure certifications.

Conditions

Location: Winterthur area, Switzerland.

You should live in or regularly be available in the Winterthur region, so you can meet customers, coordinate with onsite and remote-hands teams, and attend governance, escalation and service review meetings when needed.

Swiss citizenship is required.
