Description

The company's Aeronautics Systems unit is hiring a Modeling, Simulation and Analysis Engineer within its Systems Engineering organization. The role may be filled at either the Principal or Senior Principal level, and it may be based in El Segundo, CA.

The hire would join the Research and Advanced Design group, which handles the earliest stage of design: advanced concepts, rapid prototyping, and demonstrations on survivability, autonomy, and battle management, including next-generation aircraft and collaborative autonomous platforms.

The work is fast-paced, with high expectations, varied assignments, and small collaborative teams at every level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical execution of systems analysis and simulation tasks and projects.
  • Research and analyze friendly and adversary systems across ground, air, and space domains to shape clean-sheet requirements, refine existing program requirements, and guide future technology choices.
  • Build and integrate simulation frameworks, performance models, algorithms, threat models, and command and control models.
  • Develop software and analytical tools that model system behavior in real-time and constructive simulations.
  • Build and use advanced graphical user interfaces, visualization tools, and data analysis toolsets.
  • Model operational environments, run computer-based trade studies, and recommend alternative architectures.
  • Perform operational and mission effectiveness analysis.
  • Apply tactics, techniques, and procedures to blue and red kill chains across security environments, programs, architectures, and platforms.
  • Model, simulate, and analyze blue and red tactics and concepts of operations at the mission level in support of program and research goals.
  • Carry out mission engineering through the Systems Engineering V, tracing desired capabilities to delivered performance, trading new system performance against cost and mission needs, building operationally relevant scenarios, and assessing effectiveness in representative environments.
  • Work with air vehicle and subsystem engineers, program leadership, and customers to recommend candidate designs and develop concepts of operations and tactics at system, mission, and campaign levels.
  • Gather input from stakeholders, synthesize data, and report results to leaders at all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Principal level: a STEM bachelor's degree and 5 years of related professional or military systems engineering experience, or a master's degree and 3 years, or a Ph.D. and 1 year.
  • Senior Principal level: a STEM bachelor's degree and 8 years of related professional or military systems engineering experience, or a master's degree and 6 years, or a Ph.D. and 4 years.
  • Current US Government Secret clearance or higher, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain and keep US Government Top Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) eligibility within a timeframe set by business needs.
  • Scripting experience in MATLAB, Python, C++, or Java, or experience running software-based trade studies.
  • Experience with simulation frameworks such as AFSIM, Suppressor, or STK.
  • Experience modeling operational environments, performing operations analysis, and running mission effectiveness trade studies.
  • Experience in at least one of these areas: assessing foreign threats to US military systems; modeling and simulating radars, missiles, integrated air defense systems, and air, sea, or space platforms; mission-level survivability, lethality, vulnerability, and engagement analysis; low observables; modeling and analysis of RF, infrared, electro-optical, or acoustic signals; modeling of electronic attack, electronic protection, or electronic countermeasures; friendly and adversary concepts of operations and tactics.
  • Preferred: operational military background as a fighter or bomber pilot, electronic warfare or weapons systems officer, air battle manager, intelligence officer, or joint duty officer.
  • Preferred: familiarity with AGILE, MBSE, and system architecture.
  • Preferred: project management skills and strong communication.
  • Preferred: experience with version control tools such as Bitbucket, GitHub, or GitLab.
  • Preferred: strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Preferred: ability to present and brief technical data to leaders at all levels, including US Government.
  • Preferred: a current, active in-scope US Government DoD Top Secret clearance with current or previous SAP or SCI access.
  • Preferred: experience in at least two of the areas listed above.
