Description

The team builds new firmware for solid state drives, working across embedded architecture, external interfaces and product constraints to add value to the platform.

You will work with storage interface standards including NVMe, PCIe, SATA and SAS.

The team runs on Agile, so you need strong communication skills and must collaborate closely with colleagues locally and across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Write, review, document and maintain product source code in C and C++.
  • Build firmware against internal and customer specifications.
  • Test at unit and system level, and investigate and debug product failures during development and validation.
  • Develop low-level firmware, system architectures, operating systems and device architectures with hardware and ASIC design teams.
  • Work across several firmware disciplines to grow your knowledge of the full SSD architecture.
  • Turn product requirements from stakeholders into development and validation plans.
  • Follow and model an Agile/Kanban approach that values product quality, team accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Align priorities and work with other engineering stakeholders to hit committed milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with embedded software or firmware fundamentals, including C/C++, debugging and working close to hardware.
  • Experience with development and debug tools such as Git, Python and C/C++ debuggers.
  • A record of analyzing technical problems, interpreting test or debug data and explaining findings clearly, gained through coursework, internships, research or projects.
  • Preferred: understanding of basic SSD media management, including flash translation layers, wear leveling, garbage collection, bad-block management, error correction and data integrity.
  • Preferred: coursework, internship, research or project exposure to NAND flash, including SLC, TLC and QLC operation and the tradeoffs between performance, endurance, retention and reliability.
  • Preferred: exposure to storage interfaces or protocols such as NVMe, PCIe, SATA, ONFI or other high-speed hardware interfaces.
  • Preferred: interest in building data-driven media management algorithms that improve SSD performance, endurance, reliability and quality of service.
  • Preferred: strong communication and interpersonal skills for working independently and in teams across multiple sites.
  • Self-starting, able to juggle several tasks, and able to influence and lead; experience taking features through the stages of a product lifecycle is a plus.
