Description

Working with technology and business teams, you will shape, build and ship full stack software that tackles significant scientific or business problems, while leading a small team of engineers.

You will deliver production web applications and services on React/TypeScript front ends, Python and Node back ends, and GraphQL APIs. Your time splits between hands-on building and day-to-day leadership: steering project delivery, developing your people, and pushing engineering practices that raise productivity and quality across the group.

The company develops medicines in immunology, oncology and neuroscience, and has an aesthetics portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Study information needs, talk with users, and analyze system flows, data use and work processes to conceive, design, engineer and implement full stack solutions across React/TypeScript front ends, Python and Node.js services, and GraphQL APIs.
  • Build responsive, accessible web interfaces in React and TypeScript with modern tooling (Vite, GraphQL codegen, TanStack or Redux Toolkit, react-hook-form, zod) and shared design systems.
  • Design and implement GraphQL schemas and resolvers that scale across services and clients.
  • Build and run Python and Node.js back-end services, including services that integrate agents or LLMs, and expose them securely and observably to front ends and downstream consumers.
  • Design and build custom integrations between third-party and internal systems that exchange data reliably and securely.
  • Package and deploy applications with Docker, and work with Kubernetes-based orchestration for the team's services.
  • Own the CI/CD pipelines for the team's services, covering automated build, test and deployment across environments.
  • Work with stakeholders to define technical guardrails for citizen-developed applications, applying software engineering and infrastructure principles so solutions are secure, reliable, scalable and supportable.
  • Add observability to services and clients, and use those signals to diagnose and resolve technical problems methodically.
  • Lead a team of 2, 3 direct FTE engineers and direct the work of additional contract engineers, setting day-to-day tasks, sprint plans and priorities.
  • Run performance reviews and support each FTE's career growth, including goal-setting and skills planning. Give performance feedback on contractors' work.
  • Mentor team members on technical practices, code quality and problem-solving.
  • Act as technical lead on team projects, guiding design decisions so solutions meet business needs and engineering standards.
  • Show initiative and creativity in building technology solutions, and encourage the same across the team.
  • Work with high autonomy, needing only minimal direction from your supervisor. Be accountable for team delivery and output, and for the performance and development of your direct reports.
  • Where meaningful, reliable and usable in a scientific or business activity, start new areas of investigation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 6 years of experience, Master's degree with 5 years, or PhD with 0 years.
  • Thorough theoretical and practical understanding of full stack software engineering.
  • Proven, hands-on experience delivering production applications in Python and React with TypeScript.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and consuming GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience building custom integrations between third-party and internal platforms.
  • Practical experience with Docker containerization.
  • Strong TypeScript skills, including type-driven API design and shared type and codegen workflows between client and service.
  • A record of creative technology solutions that moved the business forward.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Experience with Node.js server frameworks such as Hapi or Apollo Server.
  • Experience with Python service frameworks and packaging tools such as uv, pydantic or httpx.
  • Prior experience managing or leading a small engineering team.
  • Exposure to LLM and agent-based application development and integration with internal AI SDKs.
  • Preferred: life sciences industry experience and/or a chemistry degree.
