Description

The team builds the machine learning models that drive credit lending decisions in several European countries and Australia, within the company's International Credit Machine Learning group.

You will manage a team of ML engineers who use new ML techniques and detailed data representations to forecast repayment behaviour and improve how loans are offered to borrowers.

You will work with engineering, product and risk leaders to design, build and scale advanced ML solutions used across the company, mentor engineers, clarify hard problems with unclear requirements, and help shape the long-term ML strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction for your team and connect its work to high-impact projects in the underwriting system.
  • Multiply the team's impact by defining and championing technical solutions and operational practices.
  • Work with product management, design, analytics and risk through the product development lifecycle so that technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are understood and handled.
  • Grow your engineers through feedback, guidance and by setting an example in your own work.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 8+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years managing engineers.
  • Background in financial services, particularly credit and lending.
  • Working knowledge of machine learning, including tree-based models, transformers, deep learning and agentic ML.
  • Strong engineering skills and hands-on technical leadership, including working directly with code and architecture.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to move from low-level language details up to the architecture of large systems to see how they fit together.

Conditions

Base pay grade P and equity grade 7.

New hires usually start near the bottom of the pay range. Pay is set by location, experience and job-related skills.

Total compensation may include equity, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits, including medical, dental and vision cover for you and your dependants with 100% of the cost subsidised.

Base pay range: £142,000 to £190,000 per year.

Remote role (tagged LI-Remote). The company is remote-first, and most roles can be done from almost anywhere in the country of employment. Some roles need occasional in-person work at an office, and a few are office-based. All new hires are invited to an in-person onboarding.

For positions based in San Francisco or Los Angeles, the company considers qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records, as the law requires.

Benefits

  • Health cover at no cost to you: 100% of premiums are paid for employees and their dependants.
  • Monthly stipends for your tech setup and for health and wellness options that suit you.
  • Flexible time off and generous holiday schedules so you can rest when needed.
  • An employee stock purchase plan (ESPP) that lets you buy company stock at a discount.
