Description

The company aims to electrify and decarbonize the world, and the team works with a founder-style mindset that values speed, courage and new thinking.

You will join the CAD/CAM team and help ramp up factory volume and standardize how parts are programmed.

You will work with Siemens NX for CAD/CAM, including 5-axis continuous milling, VTL, VBM, HBM and multi-axis EDM.

Virtual prototyping uses Vericut and Siemens Run My Virtual Machine, with 100% simulation coverage.

Machines include custom 10-ton multi-function grinders, large 5-axis mills, and VTLs and VBMs up to 2.5m.

Diagnostics and automation include Closed-Loop Machining (CLM), custom Renishaw probing routines, Caron Engineering TMaC, and modal analysis (tap testing) hardware and software.

Responsibilities

  • Design and tune efficient CNC programs for complex multi-axis work on high-temperature superalloys such as Inconel, Rene and other exotic nickel alloys.
  • Generate and maintain CNC programs in NX-CAM or other software, covering multi-axis milling, turning, grinding and/or EDM.
  • Check programs in Vericut before they reach the shop floor, and refine toolpaths in the virtual environment.
  • Build adaptive probing routines, macro programs and closed-loop machining processes that keep complex setups predictable.
  • Help commission new and rebuilt multi-million-dollar machine tools and set baseline machining standards with Manufacturing Engineers and shop-floor teams.
  • Program and support VTL, VBM, 5-axis mill and multi-purpose turn/grind machines up to 2.5m.
  • Create programs that follow standards and qualified machining parameters.
  • Give CNC support to the Manufacturing Engineer and train operators during machine startups, rebuilds and process changes.
  • Provide daily CNC programming and troubleshooting support to operators.
  • Support tooling and fixturing needs for CNC machines.
  • Write and update workstation instructions (methods) for CNC issues.
  • Lead process improvement projects that improve safety, quality, cost and delivery.
  • Share knowledge as a technical mentor, troubleshoot setups and prove out first-piece parts on the floor.
  • Communicate clearly with the right team members, working both alone and in a team within a matrixed organization.
  • Manage several projects at once in a fast-paced setting, and drive positive change inside and outside the team.

Requirements

  • Basic: A bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or machinist apprenticeship (or similar) plus 3 years of CNC programming in a graphical CAM system.
  • Basic: A high school diploma plus 6 years of CNC programming in a graphical CAM system.
  • Stand out: Experience creating 5-axis CNC programs in a CAM system, preferably NX.
  • Stand out: At least 1 year using high-level machine controls, including subroutines (macros), Renishaw probing routines, variable-based programming and CLM.
  • Stand out: Substantial hands-on machinist experience, including setting up and proving out complex first-piece programs.
  • Stand out: A record of holding tight tolerances on large-format machines (VTLs, VBMs and similar up to 2.5m), where part deflection, work hardening and thermal stability matter.
  • Stand out: Extensive work machining nickel-based superalloys such as Inconel, Rene and Hastelloy, common in Heavy Duty Gas Turbine (HDGT) or aerospace.
  • Stand out: Strong problem-solving and organization skills, with above-average shop math in geometry and trigonometry.
  • Stand out: Experience with Vericut (preferred) or other CNC verification and machine simulation software.
  • Stand out: Working knowledge of several machine controls, including Fanuc, Haas, Okuma and Siemens.
  • Stand out: Proven skill reading drawings and engineering requirements.
  • Stand out: Ability to handle several projects at the same time.
  • Stand out: Experience machining high-temperature superalloys used in HDGT or aerospace components.
