Java Microservices Developer - Assistant Vice President

Description

The company is hiring an AVP-level Java and microservices developer to build distributed backend systems that handle financial transactions around the clock, worldwide.

You will lead technical work on fast, low-delay platforms that run real-time payment processing.

Your work centers on cloud-native Java microservices built with Spring Boot and Kafka, and on AI-assisted engineering tools and practices (AI-PDLC, GitHub Copilot, Devin), with the goal of reliability, performance and 99.999% availability.

You will work with product managers, enterprise architects and engineering squads to turn business and regulatory demands into software ready for production.

Responsibilities

• Write Java microservices for real-time transaction processing around the clock, designed so no data is lost and services stay up.
• Design event-driven streaming and messaging systems on Apache Kafka.
• Build resilient cloud-native services with Spring Boot and Spring Cloud, covering central configuration, service discovery, distributed tracing and mTLS for service-to-service calls in finance.
• Put ISO 20022 messages (pacs, pain, camt), real-time payment schemes and financial networks into practice, meeting strict data security and cryptography rules.
• Tune data access and storage across distributed SQL and in-memory caches for maximum throughput and sub-millisecond execution.
• Apply deep knowledge of Java concurrency, Virtual Threads, memory handling and garbage collection tuning to build fast, thread-safe backends.
• Work with Site Reliability Engineering on observability standards (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk), plus performance profiling, chaos experiments and load stress tests on every transaction path.
• Lead design and code reviews and mentor engineers to raise code quality, security and engineering standards across several squads.
• Deploy and manage containerized workloads on Docker and Kubernetes or OpenShift, supporting CI/CD and zero-downtime releases.
• Promote the AI-PDLC across squads, using generative AI tools and autonomous agents (GitHub Copilot, Devin, AI-driven testing and code review) to speed delivery while meeting firmwide security and governance rules.
• Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on Java engineering, with strong skills in Java 17 and 21, concurrency utilities, Virtual Threads, memory management and advanced JVM performance tuning.
• A proven record of building and running production microservices with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud and reactive programming.
• Strong experience with event streaming using Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ, including partitioning, distributed transactions and idempotency.
• Practical mastery of microservice patterns: API Gateway, SAGA, CQRS, Event Sourcing, Transactional Outbox, Circuit Breaker and Service Discovery.
• Hands-on use of AI developer tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Devin and AI code analysis) and AI-PDLC practices in team delivery.
• Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes or OpenShift in high-availability environments.
• Experience with Git, automated CI/CD pipelines and Agile delivery (Scrum or Kanban).
• Strong analysis, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical, product and business leaders.
• Bachelor's degree or university degree, or equivalent experience.
• Master's degree preferred.

Conditions

Full-time role based in Tampa, Florida, United States.

Salary range for this location: $96,960.00 - $145,440.00.
