The company's Consulting Services group serves internal and external clients across power generation, delivery and use.
The role sits within a team of experienced consultants. You will build solutions and reduce integration risk for complex power systems, such as data center loads and large hybrid electrical systems.
The team wants a self-driven leader with strong technical knowledge, business development skill and a record of delivering high-quality services to clients.
Responsibilities
Own the integrated solutions architecture, including creating and maintaining Single Line Diagrams that tie together electrical subsystems, gas turbines, Energy Management Systems, battery energy storage and grid hardware and software.
Propose design architectures for each application, weighing performance and reliability, and run studies and simulations to check system response.
Set equipment LCOE and operational interfaces with business units, pass customer reliability needs to internal teams, and support LCOE and reliability analysis with studies.
Lead the definition of onsite generation reports, collecting the information needed for customer meetings and final submittal.
Act as lead business unit coordinator for ongoing customer projects and proposals.
Lead and take part in cross-functional coordination studies and requirements testing across the full power system, working with colleagues in Consulting Services, engineering, sales and product development to grow the company's power systems capabilities.
Interpret heavy duty and aeroderivative turbine studies to guide system design and optimization decisions.
Build reference architectures for repeatable applications and apply them to customer projects so that practices stay consistent.
Work with utilities and Independent System Operators on industry standards and regulations, and look for chances to collaborate and innovate.
Understand grid interconnection requirements or have experience with grid-connected applications.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or power systems engineering from an accredited university or college.
At least 5 years of professional experience in engineering, product management or a related field.
3+ years delivering projects on time and on budget, as an individual contributor or project manager.
3+ years of application engineering on gas turbines, combined-cycle plants or turbomachinery, including equipment performance and operating limits such as ramp rates, black-start options, emissions, and upgrades that improve heat rate, output and overall plant capability.
Ability and willingness to travel at least 25% of the time, as required.
Desired: strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a record of leading engineering teams to high-value technical solutions.
Desired: clear written and oral communication for presenting to internal and external business executives.
Desired: working knowledge of government structures, global energy policy, international power system codes and standards, power market structures, and how regulatory reform affects the wider economy.
Desired: an advanced degree in mechanical, electrical or power systems engineering from an accredited university or college.
Desired: ability to lead, motivate and influence individuals and teams.
Desired: general understanding of power system behavior and controls, including steady state flow, voltage stability, least-cost generation planning and operation, and controls coordination such as Mark IVE or similar.
Desired: general understanding of technical regulatory standards and grid code compliance, including evaluation, testing and reporting.
Preferred: general understanding of power system equipment across generation, load smoothing and storage, transmission, distribution and industrial use, such as BESS, solid state transformers, generators, transformers, circuit breakers, arresters, shunt and series capacitors, synchronous condensers, HVDC, and power electronic converters for wind, solar and industrial uses.
Preferred: general understanding of controls for grid-interactive equipment, such as automatic voltage regulators, power system stabilizers, frequency response and load controls, stability controls for weak systems, plant regulator coordination, FACTS and HVDC, plus awareness of technology trends in power equipment.
Preferred: understanding of loadflow, dynamic stability and or production simulation modeling, including applications and validation.
