Health Safety Environmental Engineer, Service Centers

The company is a global developer and supplier of technology, automation and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries, with over 19,000 professionals worldwide.

This is a new HSE Engineer role in the Flow Control Service Centers business, where you will help uphold and raise health, safety and environmental standards.

You will join the Health, Safety and Environment team and work with local managers, employees, the business line HSE Manager, HSE colleagues in North America, the local Quality Manager, local HR and occupational health services.

Responsibilities

• Act as the local HSE specialist, delivering HSE services and support to all operations in the Service Centers and to local HSE functions in Global Operations.
• Run HSE services in a standard, efficient and effective way across the Service Centers.
• Build strong local HSE management and a safety culture that supports business goals, legal, customer and group requirements, and Global Operations.
• Get managers and supervisors to own and lead the HSE system and culture.
• Encourage employees to take part in the North American and local safety culture.
• Apply the global and area HSE processes locally and write extra site-specific procedures where needed.
• Handle internal and external HSE issues at the service locations and keep relevant stakeholders informed.
• Check the quality of local HSE documents, both internal and external.
• Find HSE risks and opportunities, then propose and communicate solutions to stakeholders at the service locations.
• Plan and deliver the yearly location HSE improvement plan, including priority initiatives, in line with the regional and global strategy and targets.
• Organise and run local HSE training for the company employees and external workers.
• Help managers carry out HSE hazard and risk assessments for normal and abnormal operations and before any planned operational change.
• Serve as the contact for support to Global Operations at the Shrewsbury facility, and help make local, regional and global initiatives succeed.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of HSE experience in a similar environment.
• Experience driving continuous improvement activities.
• Working knowledge of the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management system standards and certifications.
• Familiarity with local, state and federal safety and environmental regulations.
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time to other facilities and customer sites.
• A secondary degree in safety, environmental or another relevant field is preferred.
• Experience with other standards is also valued.

Conditions

The base pay range is $85k to $98k per year, the start point depends on market data, internal equity and candidate credentials.

The stated salary range is a general guide, and actual pay will be set case by case.

Travel of up to 50% to other sites and customer locations is part of the role.
