Description

The company's MILSATCOM program team, part of its defense and space business, is hiring a Ground Systems Test and Integration Engineer at Level 3 or Level 4 to build the next generation of satellite ground mission planning systems.

The role is based in Colorado Springs, CO, and suits an engineer who wants to lead. You would direct parts of the ground system software group and its programs in an agile setting.

You would work with supplier and contractor software, systems engineering and test teams on requirements, verification and support for the customer's delivered system. The team works closely with the customer from requirement definition through development, and writes test plans, procedures and reports for components up to full functional systems.

The program offers mentoring in a collaborative but professional setting, with long-term room to grow into technical or management roles.

Responsibilities

  • Take an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, build and verify complex system of systems solutions.
  • Assess customer and operational needs, set system performance requirements, and make sure physical, functional and program interfaces are compatible.
  • Run analyses to improve the overall system of systems or system architecture.
  • Analyze affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other quality factors to reach a preferred configuration that supports mission success.
  • Build, maintain and improve requirements management processes and tools, plus risk, issue, opportunity and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Resolve cross-functional technical issues.
  • Support integration and testing of ground segment operational products.
  • Write and carry out system integration and test plans, procedures and reports.
  • Lead test entrance and exit reviews.
  • Help develop complex system-level threads needed to run space missions.

Requirements

  • Hold an active U.S. Secret clearance. A clearance active within the past 24 months counts as active. U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry, or a non-US equivalent directly related to the work.
  • Have 5+ years of engineering experience. Level 3 typically means 5 or more years of related work experience, and Level 4 typically means 9 or more.
  • Bring advanced skills in test and integration systems engineering.
  • Communicate well in writing and orally, including presenting at major program reviews and leading the technical content of system documents.
  • Understand version control and system quality attributes such as testability, portability and maintainability.
  • Work well in a team and collaborate with systems engineers, analysts, software developers and other Integrated Product Team members.
  • Have experience in software systems engineering or test.
  • Have managed testing end to end: test definition, test execution, verification traceability, and unit, factory and site customer testing.
  • Have worked with customers and users or operators to define functional and performance requirements, software interfaces, use cases and user stories.
  • Have experience with satellite ground systems and the satellite operations domain.
  • Have used model-based engineering throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Have collaborated with developers using agile tools and practices.
  • Have used Atlassian Jira.
  • Be willing to travel domestically as needed.
  • Be a U.S. Person under 22 C.F.R. §120.62 (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, refugee or asylee) to meet export control rules.
  • Preferred: Level 4 leads need 9+ years of related engineering experience.
  • Preferred: A bachelor's or higher degree in electrical, computer or aerospace engineering.
  • Preferred: Experience with agile processes.
  • Preferred: Basic knowledge of orbital dynamics, RF communications, satellite links, transponder loading and military communication architectures.
  • Preferred: Experience with satellite bus and payload resource management.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with system integration and test processes and execution.
  • Preferred: Operational knowledge of key MILSATCOM systems.
