Description

The company is a technology firm that serves the US federal government, with clients in defense, national security, public safety, civilian, and military health. Its work is about making government operations stronger and more effective.

You will be the architect of a cloud-native application on AWS and its backend services. The platform sends radar, satellite, forecast-model, observational, geospatial, and historical weather data to web clients in real time. It must reach 99.99% availability and meet FISMA High requirements.

This is a hands-on role using React, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, MapLibre, and WebGL. You will also lead the technical direction of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture of the full stack, covering geospatial features, the web layer, and backend services.
  • Build React 19 micro-frontends with Module Federation.
  • Define clear API and data contracts for geospatial and weather information.
  • Design how raster, vector, gridded, point, spatial, and time-series data is processed and delivered.
  • Set standards for coordinate systems, map projections, spatial accuracy, geometry processing, tiling, and browser rendering.
  • Build REST APIs, BFF services, and domain services that run on Kubernetes.
  • Design real-time delivery using WebSockets, server-sent events, and event-driven patterns.
  • Plan caching, tiling, and delivery so large weather datasets and browser maps perform well.
  • Create web-based geospatial visualizations with MapLibre, deck.gl, WebGL, or similar tools.
  • Work with Platform Engineering on CI/CD, infrastructure, deployments, observability, availability, disaster recovery, and FISMA High compliance.
  • Make architecture decisions, lead technical planning, set development standards, and run code reviews.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, data engineering, geographic information systems, or a related field.
  • Have 6+ years of full-stack engineering experience, including technical leadership on programs of similar size and complexity.
  • Have 5+ years of hands-on experience building microservices, APIs, and Kubernetes-based applications.
  • Have strong JavaScript or TypeScript skills and experience with a modern web framework. React is preferred.
  • Have hands-on experience with micro-frontend architecture and Module Federation.
  • Have hands-on experience building BFF services, microservices, and REST APIs.
  • Have strong experience building browser-based geospatial applications, including real-time map visualization, projections, raster and vector data, spatial processing, tiling, and spatial databases.
  • Have experience with weather data formats such as GRIB2, netCDF, Zarr, Icechunk, or similar scientific formats.
  • Show proven technical leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
