Founding Engineer

Description

The company is building an AI-native operations platform for managed service providers (MSPs), the outsourced IT departments that run IT for millions of small and mid-sized businesses. About 45,000 MSPs exist, and nearly every IT decision for those businesses passes through them, yet the tools they rely on have barely changed in decades.

The company is a seed-stage startup backed by top investors and advised by well-known figures in the IT community. The founders have worked closely with MSPs and have built well-regarded automation software. Many technicians already work inside the product all day.

The role reports to the CTO and involves working directly with MSP customers to build IT products. You will own several products end to end and help customers move onto the platform. You will also contribute to the longer-term work of building an AI-native MSP operations platform.

As one of the first engineering hires, you will have a large say in the team's culture, pace, and approach to rebuilding the current stack.

Responsibilities

• Design solutions that help MSPs get more out of each technician hour.
• Turn what you learn from customer conversations into features that change how MSPs work.
• Build products with a strong focus on user experience, shaping workflows that make technicians' days much faster.
• Own new products from the first customer conversation through rollout and integration.

Requirements

• You have shipped high-quality products and understand what drives people to use them.
• You can judge how engineering decisions affect the business and the customer experience.
• You iterate quickly on both the product and your own working methods, and you do well in a startup.
• You work from the San Francisco office 4-5 days a week.
• You are a strong full-stack engineer with production experience on both frontend and backend.
• You have strong frontend and UX skills and can turn a rough idea into a polished, fast interface.
• You have designed data models and APIs and integrated with messy third-party APIs and webhooks.
• You have built LLM-based features in production, including agents, tool use, and evals.
• The process starts with a screening call with a member of the team, followed by a longer technical interview.
• A paid work trial at the full-time pay rate comes next and leads to a full-time role.

The role is based in the San Francisco office, 4-5 days a week.
