Forward Deployed Engineering Lead

Description

The company is building an AI-powered software creation platform, based in Stockholm with teams in London, Boston, New York and San Francisco. It is small, talent-dense and moves quickly, and has over 60 million projects built on it since its November 2024 launch. Customers range from solo founders and small businesses to teams at large companies such as Adidas and Zendesk.

The role is to build and lead the Forward Deployed Engineering team in your location, while working with the other FDE leaders to set how the function runs worldwide. You stay hands-on: working with the largest customers, writing production code and building alongside your team.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, develop and lead a team of Forward Deployed Engineers.
• Build and ship alongside your team, staying close to the code.
• Work with customers to understand their workflows, needs and hardest technical problems.
• Design, prototype and implement solutions with your team.
• Own projects from idea through architecture, shipping and iteration.
• Set the technical bar through architecture decisions, code reviews and hands-on engineering.
• Turn lessons from customer deployments into core platform and product improvements.
• Work with other FDE leads on standards, playbooks and how the function scales globally.
• Shape product strategy, technical decisions and team culture.
• Partner with customers building AI systems that have not been built before.

Requirements

• 12+ years across software engineering, technical architecture and customer-facing engineering.
• Experience leading and developing high-performing technical teams.
• A record of staying hands-on as your leadership scope grew.
• Strong full-stack skills across modern frontend and backend development.
• Strong architectural thinking and familiarity with distributed systems.
• Experience owning complex technical engagements from start to finish.
• Strong product intuition and the ability to work directly with users.
• Ability to move between writing code, making architecture decisions, leading engineers and working with senior customer stakeholders.
• High agency and comfort in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

Conditions

Tech stack: React and TypeScript on the frontend; Golang and Rust on the backend; Cloudflare, GCP, AWS and multiple LLM providers in the cloud; GitHub Actions, OTEL, Grafana and Terraform for tooling. The stack changes as tools prove out.
