Forward Deployed Engineer

Description

The company uses video and audio to produce intelligence for physical sites.

Its systems run on edge devices for multi-site businesses, coaching sales teams, tracking queue wait times and flagging events as they happen.

Its customers are operators, not tech companies, so they describe what is going wrong instead of sending specs, and the team works out the technical answer.

This role closes that gap, often delivering working AI solutions within days rather than months.

Responsibilities

• Spend time on customer sites and calls to learn how the operation really runs and where AI can make a measurable difference.
• Own the full build: choose the approach and models, write the backend, create the interface and deploy to real hardware.
• Decide when a small model or a simple rule beats a large one, and keep running costs low.
• Get a first version in front of the customer quickly, watch how they use it and improve it.
• Bring what you learn back to product and engineering so one customer's fix can become a feature for all customers.
• In 1 week you might tune a detection model, write the API that serves it, build the dashboard the customer sees and debug on an edge device at a site. Examples include a detection agent for smoking, safety violations or queue buildup on a camera network, LLM analysis of sales conversations, and a dashboard a regional manager checks each morning.

Requirements

• Have shipped work across the stack, whether your strength is backend or models, and be comfortable with frontend, databases and deployment.
• Pick up unfamiliar tools fast.
• Have worked with vision, speech or language models, or want to go deep on them.
• Enjoy customer conversations as much as writing code.
• Prefer shipping something real this week over planning something perfect for next quarter.
• Can explain a technical tradeoff to a business owner and an engineer in the same afternoon.
• Are comfortable with ambiguity, since finding the right problem is half the job.

Conditions

Some travel to customer sites is part of the role.
