Firmware Test Engineer

Description

The company makes automation and industrial technology that helps manufacturers run more productively, sustainably and flexibly, and its customers include food, medicine, water and clean mobility businesses.

The role sits in a team that tests embedded firmware for motor drives and power converters, working alongside firmware developers, software developers, test engineers and test technicians.

You will report to the Engineering Test Manager and work in Katowice, Poland, on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

• Write functional and system-level test plans and test cases for embedded firmware, based on functional requirements specifications and high-level design documents.
• Build and maintain test setups and automated test stations, including test scripts written in Python or another common language.
• Create and refine test procedures, scripts and implementation documents under the Common Development Process, and keep clear records of test conditions, analysis, results and design decisions.
• Work with developers to find test opportunities, look into product issues, and improve test tools, methods and coverage.
• Guide the test technicians assigned to projects day to day, and help shape shared processes and improvements across the test organization.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics, automation, computer engineering, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Hands-on experience testing embedded firmware, software-controlled products or electronic systems at functional or system level.
• At least 1 year of experience writing test scripts in Python or another widely used language.
• Experience reading and applying product requirements, design documents, test plans and test procedures.
• Working knowledge of electrical and electronic measurement equipment and safe lab practices.
• Optional: experience testing variable frequency drives, power converters, industrial automation products, PLCs or similar electronics.
• Optional: experience building automated test systems, test fixtures, data acquisition solutions or hardware-in-the-loop environments.
• Optional: knowledge of firmware and product development lifecycles, defect investigation, root-cause analysis and requirements-based testing.

Conditions

Hybrid schedule: you are expected to be on site at a company location on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, unless you have a business commitment away from the office.
