Description

The company's Integrated Air and Missile Defense program area is starting several new development efforts for the RF seeker used in an air-defense missile. The company is the original engineering manufacturer of this radar seeker, which passes target data to the missile so it can acquire, intercept and destroy threats through hit-to-kill technology.

The seeker team is cross-functional and highly skilled, with a focus on safety, execution and lean manufacturing and business practices. The role is based at the company's Jetplex facility in Huntsville, Alabama, and supports these efforts as an experienced seeker radar engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Build algorithms for radar signal processing, including Kalman filtering, probabilistic and statistical modeling, and measurement processing from pulsed-Doppler waveforms.
  • Design algorithms that turn signal returns into discriminated targets and keep tracking them across the mission timeline.
  • Set system performance requirements and make sure interface definitions support the seeker's and missile's functional components.
  • Analyze the full system of systems to improve performance and architecture for target acquisition and tracking.
  • Study seeker simulation data to find weak points and recommend ways to keep the system robust in difficult operating environments.
  • Adapt general digital signal processing methods to reradiated signal content so signal characteristics are identified accurately.
  • Help turn algorithm designs into working Ada or C++ software.

Requirements

  • Required: a Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry, or an equivalent non-US qualification directly related to the work.
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience with digital signal processing, radar or digital communications algorithms and techniques, such as equalization, waveform processing, detection, acquisition, discrimination, channel estimation, filter design or resampling theory.
  • Preferred: experience using MATLAB for data analysis, prototyping, modeling or simulation.
  • Preferred: experience with digital signal processing theory and the use of its fundamental techniques.
  • Preferred: knowledge of linear signal theory, Fourier transforms and communication theory.
  • Preferred: experience with RF, electrical transmission, signal processing and modeling in MATLAB.
  • Preferred: system test experience covering test design, implementation and execution for breadboard and brassboard hardware.
  • Preferred: experience in a fast-paced independent research and development (IRAD) environment.
  • Preferred: familiarity with several programming languages and development environments, such as C++, Ada and Python, in an Agile setting.
  • Preferred: experience with formal technical writing, such as whitepapers, tech-notes, technical journals and research reports.
  • Preferred: experience moving novel technologies and concepts through technology readiness level (TRL) maturation.
  • Preferred: an education level of a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
