Engineering Manager, Product Foundations

The Product Foundations team builds the core platform capabilities customers rely on: reporting and analytics, document management, training, calendars, communications, and access to organizational data. These serve both administrators and employees.

The team focuses on experiences that are intuitive, reliable, and scalable, helping customers find information, complete key workflows, and run their organizations on their own. It emphasizes usability, self-service, and removing friction.

The work balances keeping mission-critical functionality stable and fast with trying new solutions. The team led the company's first AI-powered product experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a backend engineering team, growing it into a high-performing group.
• Coordinate projects, set priorities, and motivate engineers to build and maintain customer-facing features.
• Mentor engineers and help them grow, acting as a strategist as well as a people manager.
• Write code yourself as part of a player-coach role, balancing people leadership with hands-on technical work.
• Connect technical and non-technical teams.
• Promote the use of AI to drive new features and improve operational efficiency.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience as a software engineer on production web applications.
• At least 1 year of engineering management experience in industry, with a record of building and growing teams.
• Comfortable splitting your time roughly 50/50 between people management and hands-on technical guidance.
• Solid experience using AI technologies to build modern features and keep systems well maintained.
• Strong written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• High empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
• Core experience with Go, microservices, Kubernetes, AWS, and event-driven architecture.
• Solid grounding in data structures, data stores, algorithms, distributed systems, and common design patterns.
• Good judgment: you analyze problems and their implications, spot patterns, understand risks, plan mitigations, and own the results.
• Resourcefulness: you keep a can-do attitude under constraints and make the most of what you have.
• Teamwork and communication: you share knowledge, document well, listen, build relationships, and help with recruiting.
• Influence and leadership: you foster knowledge sharing, mentorship, and forward thinking across a team.

Conditions

Hybrid work model, based in the New York City office.

The base pay range for this role at the New York City office is targeted at $212,000.00 to $274,000.00 per year.

Actual pay depends on factors such as skill set, relevant experience, and work location. Ranges in other locations may differ based on local labor costs.
