Description

The role leads engineering for Marketing Technology platforms within PBWM, drawing on marketing capabilities across the group.

The work centres on building and evolving scalable platforms for campaign management, client communications, audience management and personalised engagement.

The director sets platform strategy and engineering standards and works closely with Marketing, Product, Data, Architecture, Cyber, Operations and Risk.

This is a senior role that manages several teams, shapes the function's strategy and budget, and speaks for the function and business division.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow high-performing engineering teams, building a culture that values engineering quality, teamwork, new ideas and ownership.
  • Own the Marketing Technology engineering roadmap and align it with PBWM and group technology priorities.
  • Run Salesforce Marketing Cloud and the wider Marketing Technology stack, keeping the architecture scalable, secure and resilient.
  • Push modern engineering across marketing platforms, APIs, integrations and data, linking Marketing Technology with CRM, customer data and enterprise platforms.
  • Work with Marketing, Product, Data and Architecture to turn business strategy into lasting capability, modernising and simplifying platforms and adopting new technology.
  • Answer for delivery and platform results across quality, cost, resilience, cyber security, data privacy and risk, and act as the senior escalation point for complex technical and production problems.
  • Manage timelines, team allocation, risk and priorities so work lands within scope, time and budget.
  • Coach team members, run performance reviews and give clear, useful feedback.
  • Review and improve engineering processes, tools and methods to raise efficiency and team output.
  • Turn business requirements into technical solutions with business partners, product managers and designers.
  • Enforce technology standards, run peer reviews and put strong testing practices in place.
  • Advise senior management and committees, and influence decisions beyond your own function.
  • Manage resourcing, budgets and policy for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalate policy breaches and make sure compliance processes and regulations are followed.
  • Monitor regulators and advocacy groups, and represent the group's position where appropriate.
  • Act as the main contact for key clients and counterparts in other functions and divisions.

Requirements

  • A solid record of engineering and people leadership, building, changing and running enterprise platforms in large, complex, regulated settings.
  • Deep knowledge of Marketing Technology architecture, covering campaigns, marketing automation, client communications, audience management and personalisation.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or comparable enterprise platforms, including links to CRM, customer data and digital systems.
  • Good engineering knowledge of APIs, microservices, cloud, data integration and event-driven design, plus credible technical leadership of large teams.
  • Experience connecting marketing technology to customer and prospect data, consent and preferences, and multi-channel messaging such as email and SMS.
  • A proven record of setting platform strategy and roadmaps and driving modernisation, simplification, automation, standards and resilience across complex estates.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder skills, with the ability to turn marketing strategy into technology priorities and bring in capabilities such as AI-enabled marketing, journey orchestration and advanced personalisation.
  • You are expected to show the group's LEAD behaviours: listen and be authentic, energise and inspire, align across the enterprise, and develop others.
  • You are expected to live the company's values of respect, integrity, service, excellence and stewardship, and its mindset to empower, challenge and drive.
