Description

The company is a product development and engineering consulting firm based in Wilmington, MA, part of a manufacturing platform that takes products from first concept to full-scale production.

Clients in aerospace and defense, electrification, medical, energy and environment, and robotics and automation bring the company technology to design and build, with particular work in biomedical instruments, industrial automation, and design for manufacturing.

The embedded systems group is growing. It builds microcontroller and firmware solutions that control electromechanical systems across many industries.

An in-house lab with CNC machines, 3D printers, waterjet and laser cutters supports fast prototyping. The company can also draw on partner sites for composites, industrial design, structural analysis, and embedded systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own firmware modules from concept to production, using bare-metal code or an RTOS such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
  • Serve as the main link between the company's internal hardware engineers and the client.
  • Write, test, and debug embedded software that drives actuators, reads sensors, and manages system states.
  • Validate firmware on physical hardware using logic analyzers and custom test setups, with a hands-on approach to experimentation.

Requirements

  • A B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field.
  • 5 to 10 years of industry experience.
  • A solid technical background and a record of building bare-metal and RTOS-based firmware.
  • Experience controlling physical mechanisms such as actuators, motors, and sensors, and debugging the hardware they run on.
  • Proficiency in C and C++ and common communication protocols.
  • Comfortable solving hard problems creatively, communicating solutions clearly to clients, and building trust.
  • Willing to debug systems hands-on and iterate quickly to reduce firmware and hardware risk.
  • Keen to learn continuously and, over time, to mentor junior engineers.
  • Able to work with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and scientists in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Focused on results and comfortable in a streamlined environment where you choose the right tools and remove bottlenecks.
  • Experience in regulated industries, such as medical devices, is a plus.

Conditions

Base salary range is $112,012.60 to $168,018.91 per year, an estimate at the time of posting.

Final pay depends on factors including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.

The role may also be eligible for annual incentive compensation and or long-term incentives, subject to company plans.

The position is based in Wilmington, MA.

The company is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities.
