Description

The company is an international aerospace, defence and security group with more than 60,000 employees, operating in helicopters, aircraft, aerostructures, electronics, cyber security and space, with a large industrial base in Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland and the United States.

The role sits in the Flight Management unit within Avionic Systems Development. The team designs, develops and certifies or qualifies the software for the main on-board computer on civil and military helicopter programmes, covering flight planning and sensor management functions.

Subsystem engineers work with the avionic systems engineering function on how the computer is integrated into the helicopter avionics. They also liaise with CPE offices, flight test pilots and engineers, procurement and RMS departments.

Your goal is to turn avionic system requirements and customer needs into subsystem software requirements and design solutions for embedded, real-time, safety-critical applications in the flight management system on helicopter product lines.

The selection process has two steps: a short interview with Human Resources about motivation and aptitude, then a deeper technical interview with the relevant business function. All candidates receive feedback at the end, whatever the outcome.

Seniority level: junior.

  • Manage suppliers for outsourced work and for purchasing the computer platform.
  • Lead the development and verification team.
  • Track and manage schedule, cost and resources for the project.

Requirements

  • A degree in a technical field such as aerospace or aeronautical engineering, automation engineering, computer engineering or electronic engineering.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to keeping customers satisfied.

  • Project management skills.
  • A habit of working to standards, rules and objectives.
  • A thorough grasp of the full software development life cycle.
  • 2 to 3 years working as an avionic subsystem or software engineer, or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of real-time, safety-critical embedded software development.
  • Knowledge of aeronautical standards for safety-critical software and systems, such as DO-178, DO-254, DO-160 and MIL-STDs, or equivalent standards from other sectors such as automotive or railway.
  • Knowledge of civil and military certification and qualification rules and processes.
  • Experience with software design methods, including UML, model-based development, and Matlab/Simulink modelling and testing.
  • Knowledge of aeronautical communication protocols and interfaces, including ARINC 429, ARINC 664/AFDX, ARINC 653 and ARINC 661.
  • Knowledge of the Ada and C/C++ programming languages.
