DEXIS Principal Software Engineer (Quakertown, PA)

Description

You will help extend a dental imaging software company's desktop products with AI-driven features delivered through a cloud platform.

This is a principal-level role that leads the design and build of cloud-hosted services, web front ends for clinical workflows, and backend systems that connect to the existing desktop imaging applications.

You will work on your own with minimal guidance on the hardest problems, applying deep specialist knowledge to choose sound practices and novel solutions, and you may lead functional teams or projects that affect customer, operational, project, or service goals.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction of the cloud and AI-enabled imaging platform, covering architecture, quality, security, and how it evolves over time.
• Be the engineer accountable for the platform from design through release and post-release support.
• Design and lead the build of cloud services that bring AI capabilities into clinical imaging workflows.
• Lead the design of web-based front-end experiences for clinical use.
• Define and maintain the integration architecture and APIs linking the cloud platform to the desktop imaging applications.
• Take part in every stage of the development process, from requirements and design through implementation, integration, testing, and deployment.
• Work with desktop application, QA, and product teams to define and refine requirements for new features and enhancements.
• Set and enforce engineering practices for reliability, security, scalability, and regulatory compliance across the platform.
• Estimate development effort and report accurate progress.
• Produce and maintain engineering deliverables, including documentation, code, test plans, and test results.
• Make sure deliverables meet applicable quality, safety, regulatory, serviceability, and reliability requirements.
• Mentor engineers and give technical guidance to teams working on adjacent parts of the platform.
• Explain complex technical ideas clearly and build stakeholder agreement on architectural direction.
• Translate business and customer needs into technical approaches that improve products and processes.
• Drive adoption of the established software development process.
• Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or an equivalent field.
• 10+ years of experience in a related field, including 5 years leading products, projects, processes, or teams.
• Proven experience architecting and delivering cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with C# and.NET, including ASP.NET Core Web APIs and Entity Framework Core.
• Experience with React and common ecosystem libraries such as React Router, Redux Toolkit, React Query, and Material UI.
• Experience with Azure App Services, Functions, Azure SQL, Blob Storage, and Key Vault.
• Experience integrating AI or ML services into production applications, such as Azure AI services or cloud-hosted inference APIs.
• Experience connecting cloud services to native desktop applications.
• Experience with RESTful web services and HTTP.
• Deep command of design patterns and of complex system design and architecture.
• Preferred: a master's degree in a related field.
• Preferred: experience with microservices architecture.
• Preferred: experience with imaging systems, especially for medical or dental use.
• Preferred: experience defining or improving software processes.
• Preferred: experience developing software in an FDA-regulated industry.
• Preferred: excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Conditions

Candidates must live within a commutable distance of Quakertown, PA.

This is an onsite role requiring presence in the office 4 days per week, with no hybrid or remote option.

The base salary range is $155,200 - $189,600.

The range is an estimate that has not been adjusted for the geographic differential of the location where the role is filled.

Actual pay depends on factors such as location, skills, education, experience depth, performance, and business needs, and hiring at or near the top of the range is uncommon.
