Description

The company is a joint venture bringing together UK, Italian and Japanese defence expertise, and it is still early in its build, so you would help set its foundations.

This is a hands-on Data Architect role in an agile delivery team, leading complex data and technology work in a highly regulated setting.

You will keep work moving, manage risk and keep stakeholders aligned across the life of a project or product.

You will work with functional and value stream leads, product owners and engineers to set scope, objectives and deliverables, and to break down silos across cloud and on-prem systems.

Typical work includes API integrations, data pipelines and wider digital transformation programmes.

The company wants someone with more than 5 years in delivery or programme management in a technology or data setting, who can run agile ways of working and connect technical delivery with business value.

Responsibilities

  • This list is not exhaustive.
  • Tie the data architecture of your assigned business units to business goals and the digital information strategy.
  • Work with ACWE delivery teams so data management policies are applied at each stage of the system development lifecycle.
  • Design the overall information and data architecture for the enterprise with other data architects, improving data flow and storage.
  • Design data models and data dictionaries for your assigned business units.
  • Work with data custodians on accuracy and consistency using database management systems and ETL tools.
  • Design data integration from several sources using ETL and other tools, and oversee interfaces between business unit systems to protect data integrity.
  • Maintain data models so that data stays consistent and accurate.
  • Meet stakeholders to pin down project requirements and details.
  • Explain information architecture designs clearly and briefly to stakeholders across the business.
  • Find the main areas for improving information architecture, and make existing designs more interactive and digitally friendly.
  • Build prototypes of information architecture flows.
  • Work with the business, application and technology enterprise architecture disciplines.
  • Share information architecture principles and new developments with the wider team.
  • Coach and mentor team members.
  • Track current technology trends and apply the useful ones to the organisation's data architecture.

Requirements

  • Data modelling at conceptual, logical and physical levels.
  • Database design for relational and NoSQL systems.
  • Hands-on experience with data warehousing, including star and snowflake schemas.
  • Experience with Azure cloud data services.
  • Hands-on experience with big data tools such as Hadoop, Spark and Kafka.
  • Strong SQL skills and advanced query optimisation.
  • Experience with API design and data integration.
  • Metadata management and cataloguing.
  • Master data management.
