Description

This is a winter 2027 internship in the Federal security practice area, part of the Consultant Development Program, a paid training program that builds the technical and professional skills needed to join the company full-time as an Information Security Associate.

The cohort runs from January 25 to April 2. Locations are Irvine, CA, and Fairfax, VA, in the DC area.

The company is a close-knit group of security, technology and compliance professionals who help build more secure digital environments. Its work includes projects for defense contractors, financial institutions and telecommunications systems, covering assessments, governance programs and general advisory work on federal standards such as FISMA, FedRAMP, DFARS, NERC, NYDFS, CMMC and StateRAMP.

Developing Consultants support client project delivery in one of the company's practice areas: Enterprise Risk, Compliance, Solutions Implementation or Threat Research. They are expected to keep building their skills through self-study and participation in the information security industry.

Responsibilities

  • Build the technical and business skills needed to do billable project work as soon as possible.
  • Learn industry certifications and what they are worth.
  • Learn national and international standards and frameworks, such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA and ISO 27001.
  • Watch enterprise security solutions being implemented.
  • Observe and help with internal and external penetration tests and social engineering engagements.
  • Draft technical execution plans that meet business needs.
  • Collect requirements needed to finish those plans.
  • Carry out plans that others have designed.
  • Write up execution procedures and explain the technology involved from a professional standpoint.
  • Support consultants on client engagements.

Requirements

  • Think like a technologist while understanding how business and technology meet. You should have basic familiarity with firewalls, routers, switches and DNS, computer troubleshooting, server administration, business planning and accounting.
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks is welcome but not required.
  • Manage several tasks and your time well.
  • Be energetic, outgoing and strong with people.
  • Write clearly, both explanatory text and technical documentation.
  • Work with Excel and Word at an intermediate level.
  • Be a self-starter who enjoys experimenting and learning independently.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university or military equivalent, or be currently enrolled in one.
  • IT, cybersecurity or information security certifications are a plus.
  • You must be eligible to work in the United States and work onsite in Fairfax, VA, or Irvine, CA.

Conditions

The role is onsite at the Fairfax, VA, or Irvine, CA, location.

Selected participants become Developing Consultants. Successful completion may lead to a full-time entry-level Information Security Associate offer, though this is not guaranteed.

The company is an equal opportunity employer, and applicants are considered without regard to protected characteristics.

Benefits

  • Paid sick time off.
  • A lively work culture.
  • Opportunities for career advancement.
