Description

The company builds infrastructure for commercial work in low Earth orbit, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing and reentry capsules. Its vehicles, payloads, heat shields and satellite buses are designed, built and operated in-house.

Founded in January 2021, the company is headquartered in El Segundo, California, where it also has a production site for building, integrating and testing its hardware. It has further offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, Alabama.

The team includes people who previously worked at SpaceX, Blue Origin, large pharmaceutical companies and technology firms.

This summer role sits on the information security team. You will work alongside the Cybersecurity Analyst and the InfoSec Engineer on live alerts and real audit preparation, and learn how a security team operates inside a company.

You will see how daily tasks such as reviewing alerts, writing notes and storing logs become the evidence an auditor asks for. You will also practise using security tools that protect computers, networks, web traffic, software and user accounts, and learn to explain technical problems to non-technical readers. You will see how the InfoSec Head, the analyst, the engineer, the compliance manager and outside security partners work together.

Responsibilities

  • Review the security alerts that arrive each day, decide what each one is, and record the action you took.
  • Help configure, tune and improve Zscaler, CrowdStrike, ThreatLocker, Darktrace and AlienVault with your lead, reducing noisy alerts so each tool performs its job well.
  • Keep security event logs current so the company has a clear record of what happened and how it was handled.
  • Pull sample logs from the security tools and organize them to show an auditor that the right activity is being monitored.
  • Track reports from the outside security partner, confirm they arrive on time, and file them in the correct place.
  • Upload reports and updates into the software used for compliance tracking.
  • Own one larger summer project from start to finish, chosen with your lead in your first week, such as a logging gap report, a revised incident response guide or a simple dashboard.

Requirements

  • You are a current undergraduate studying cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, information systems or a closely related field.
  • You have studied or taught yourself at least two of: networking, operating systems, user account and password management, security incident response, and detecting security threats.
  • You are comfortable reading logs and working in spreadsheets, and you know what a basic script does, even if you have not written many.
  • You write clearly, since others depend on your notes and reports.
  • You are organized, detail-oriented, and willing to ask questions when something is unclear.
  • You are working toward a beginner certification such as CompTIA Security Plus or Network Plus.
  • You have practised with security tools on your own, in a home lab, through a school club, or in a capture the flag competition.
  • You have used or read about at least one of: Zscaler, CrowdStrike, ThreatLocker, Darktrace, AlienVault, Okta or Vanta.
  • You understand the basics of compliance frameworks such as NIST 800 171, NIST 800 53, ISO 27001 or CMMC.
  • You can write simple scripts in Python, PowerShell or Bash.

Conditions

The internship is full-time and on-site in El Segundo, California.

Start and end dates fall between May and June, depending on the selected student's university schedule.

To be considered, you must be actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program.

The hourly rate is $33.00.

A housing stipend is available for interns relocating to the area.

A commuter benefit supports local transportation costs.

You must be authorized to work in the United States for the full length of the internship, without the company sponsoring a visa.

The company only hires “U.S. persons” for roles with access to export-controlled items without an export license. A U.S. person is a U.S. citizen, a U.S. lawful permanent resident, or a protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), meaning someone admitted as a refugee or granted asylum.

Benefits

  • Paid observed holidays.
  • Medical, dental and vision plans, with the company covering 100% of the premiums for employees and dependents, plus FSA and employer-matched HSA options.
  • A $120 per month wellness reimbursement for gym and fitness costs.
  • Company-funded One Medical memberships for staff and their dependents.
  • A $20 per pay period cell phone reimbursement.
  • Relocation support of up to $4,000 gross-up, if eligible.
  • A commute credit of up to $850 for Lyft rides or car rental reimbursement, if eligible.
  • A fully stocked kitchen, with lunch provided daily and dinner twice a week.
  • Team events, happy hours and celebrations when missions succeed.
  • Free EV charging.
