Description

This is a paid summer internship in the Payments practice area of a cybersecurity consulting firm, called the Consultant Development Program. The cohort is expected to run May 31 to August 6, with locations in Irvine, CA and Fairfax, VA (DC local).

The program builds the technical and professional skills needed to join the company as a full-time Information Security Associate. Developing Consultants support client project delivery across practice areas such as Enterprise Risk, Compliance, Solutions Implementation, and Threat Research, and are expected to keep growing their skills through self-study and industry involvement.

The Payments practice helps organizations across many industries protect credit card data, and its work covers in-depth control assessments against PCI DSS, Payment Application (PA-DSS) technical assessments for point-of-sale software, and general advisory support when projects or architecture change.

Responsibilities

  • Build the technical and business skills needed to do billable project work as early as possible.
  • Learn industry certifications and what they offer, plus national and international standards and frameworks such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.
  • Watch enterprise security solutions being implemented and help with internal and external penetration tests and social engineering engagements.
  • Gather requirements, then draft technical execution plans that meet business needs and carry out plans already designed.
  • Write up execution procedures and explain the technologies involved in clear, professional terms.
  • Support consultants on client engagements.

Requirements

  • Think like a technologist while understanding how business and technology meet. Basic familiarity with networking concepts such as firewalls, routers, switches, and DNS is expected, along with computer troubleshooting, server administration, and business planning and accounting.
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks is a plus.
  • Juggle several tasks and manage your time well.
  • Bring energy, strong interpersonal skills, and clear writing for both explanatory and technical documents.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Be a self-starter who enjoys experimenting and learning independently.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year university or military equivalent, or be currently enrolled in one.
  • IT, cybersecurity, or information security certifications are a plus.
