Description

The company is looking for a computer vision AI/ML engineer to take on new and difficult problems in remote sensing.

The role applies current AI/ML computer vision methods to automatic target recognition (ATR) and to fusing multimodal data from electro-optical (EO) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sources.

You will mature, tune and move these algorithms into a cloud-hosted environment.

The ideal candidate has researched and built AI/ML computer vision algorithms and has put them into operational use across several problem areas.

You will work alongside researchers and software developers and have the chance to lead and mentor junior engineers.

Job category: Science. Full-time regular position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small group of developers and researchers building AI/ML algorithms for computer vision problems in remote sensing.
  • Prepare and process large remote sensing datasets.
  • Investigate supervised and unsupervised ATR approaches for remote sensing.
  • Study how multimodal data fusion improves ATR across varied data collection conditions.
  • Train, tune and deploy deep learning vision models that give analysts usable insights.
  • Read current research, explain key ideas to government customers, and adapt them for defense and commercial uses.
  • Write technical documentation covering code, program capabilities and user guides.

Requirements

  • Hold an active TS/SCI government security clearance.
  • Hold a B.S. in machine learning, computer science, mathematics or a related field.
  • Have at least 3+ years of computer vision AI/ML development experience.
  • Be proficient in Python and ML libraries such as PyTorch, Lightning, OpenCV, NumPy and Polars.
  • Have experience with supervised and unsupervised learning.
  • Have used Python with at least one of: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch Lightning, scikit-learn / scikit-image, or OpenCV.
  • Have trained convolutional CV models (e.g. YOLOv3-11, YOLOX) or transformer CV models (Vision Transformer, Swin, etc.).
  • Desired: experience with self-supervised learning (SSL) and student-teacher methods (e.g., DINO, knowledge distillation, BYOL).
  • Desired: experience applying AI/ML to image segmentation, super resolution, image denoising, image restoration and Multi-INT fusion.
  • Desired: experience with graph convolutional networks (GCNs) on computer vision problems.
  • Desired: experience with image processing chains for SAR, EO or OPIR.
  • Desired: experience with overhead imagery datasets such as xView, SpaceNet, Functional Map of the World, xView3, MSTAR, HRSID, CAESAR, DOTA v1/v2, etc.
  • Desired: familiarity with AWS resources such as EC2, S3 and Lambda.
  • Desired: experience with version control for code, data and models.
  • Desired: experience with Linux.
  • Desired: experience implementing tracking and fusion and pattern-of-life algorithms.
  • Desired: experience with application deployment, virtualization and containerization.

Conditions

Full-time regular role with up to 10% local travel.

An active TS/SCI clearance is needed to start.

The role can be based in more than one location, and the salary range shown is the national average for the position.

Proposed salary range: $69,100-$141,500.

Pay depends on factors including location, Federal Government contract labor categories and wage rates, relevant experience, skills, education and certifications.

The posting is expected to end on 12/25/2026.

Benefits

  • Flexible time off so you can take the time you need.
  • Access to learning resources, continuing education and learning and development opportunities.
  • Comprehensive benefits including healthcare, wellness, financial, retirement, family support and time off.
