CNC Programmer

Description

This is a full-time CNC programmer role on a team that works with engineers from several disciplines.

You will build prototypes using fabrication skills and support test and production staff, helping turn new technical solutions into fielded systems that support the warfighter.

Travel is local and may take up to 10% of your time.

The role needs no security clearance to start.

The position is contingent on funding and may not be filled right away. The company consistently has similar openings, and applicants may be considered for other roles there.

Responsibilities

• Lead programming and material planning for a small machine shop.
• Program wire EDM and 4-axis mill work in Mastercam and/or Solidworks CAM.
• Machine prototype parts on CNC and manual mills and lathes.
• Program, set up, and run 3- or 4-axis CNC machines.
• Work with design engineers, recommend machining approaches and materials, and share best practices as the machining subject matter expert (SME).
• Read and interpret CAD/CAM drawings and tolerancing schemes, including GD&T.
• Keep shop equipment working properly and the area clean.

Requirements

• Required: high school diploma or GED.
• Required: 5-10 years setting up, programming, editing, and running CNC mill and lathe machines.
• Required: experience machining metals such as aluminum and stainless steel, and other materials.
• Required: experience with the design process and mechanical assembly, with the ability to read drawings and blueprints.
• Required: ability to obtain and keep a DoD Secret clearance.
• Required: clear verbal and written English.
• Required: basic MS Windows skills.
• Required: ability to do basic math, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical work.
• Required: ability to lift 50 lbs when needed, stand, walk, and reach regularly, and use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Desired: experience with machine maintenance.
• Desired: experience with waterjet and laser cutting.

Conditions

Full-time, regular position with local travel of up to 10%.

Salary range is $70,800 - $148,600, and final pay depends on location, Federal Government contract labor categories and wage rates, relevant experience, skills, education, and certifications.
