The team builds reports, dashboards, scorecards and other analytical outputs that help business partners understand their goals and make decisions, often on high-volume ad-hoc requests.

The company is a large Canadian insurer offering general insurance and life and health products to more than four million customers. The Analytics, Insights, and Artificial Intelligence group supports this work.

The role covers both steady reporting and larger projects such as complex investigations, monitoring tools, process changes and scalable data products.

Responsibilities

  • Turn business partners' goals into clear analytical and data requirements, and decide on the approach.
  • Build BI reports and dashboards from the enterprise data infrastructure, DataMarts and other approved sources, and explain the findings in plain terms.
  • Plan and track your assigned analytics work from intake to delivery, including tasks, timelines, dependencies and status updates.
  • Analyze data to spot trends, anomalies and business impacts, and support management and partner decisions.
  • Check data quality through validation and reconciliation, and escalate problems when needed.
  • Investigate operational and risk issues by connecting data across datasets, systems and processes, including root-cause and impact analysis.
  • Review past patterns and contributing factors to find recurring themes and chances to detect or prevent issues sooner.
  • Help design, test and refine business rules, indicators and monitoring solutions, including back-testing and exception analysis.
  • Work with technical and data partners to investigate and fix data issues.
  • Work through unclear problems by testing assumptions and proposing structured recommendations.
  • Find ways to automate, streamline and apply AI-enabled tools to make work more efficient and scalable.
  • Juggle several priorities and deliver quality work on schedule while keeping data accurate and stakeholders informed.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics or reporting.
  • Solid hands-on skill in SQL and Python.
  • Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau or Posit.
  • Strong grasp of BI tools, data modeling and analytical methods.
  • Understanding of business processes, data flows and how systems interact in your area of work.
  • Ability to validate and reconcile data, and to carry out data analysis and impact assessment.
  • Sound judgment when information is incomplete or conflicts with other sources.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent priorities in a dynamic setting.
  • Skill in presenting insights to stakeholders and leadership, and in telling a clear story with data.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with Azure, Databricks or similar cloud or data platforms is an asset.
  • Experience with investigative analytics, root-cause analysis, impact assessment, business rules or exception-based monitoring is an asset.
  • Experience translating unclear business problems into structured analysis with clearly documented conclusions is an asset.
  • Experience working with business stakeholders to define requirements and deliver data and reporting solutions is an asset.
  • Experience with automation, process improvement or AI-enabled initiatives is an asset.
