Description

The company builds software for large retailers, working with brands such as Kroger, Amazon, Meijer and Costco on a range of technologies. Its in-store solutions include self-checkout and fuel rewards, and it is the installed market share leader in its field. The company is a billion-dollar global business based in Research Triangle Park, NC.

As an Associate Technical Business Analyst, you will work with retail clients and project teams to define business requirements and use cases. You will sit alongside senior analysts and the technical teams on your projects, turning client needs into clear requirements, linking clients with developers, and supporting features from definition through delivery. The role is client facing and designed for growth: you will learn the product, analysis, and retail sides of the work and take on more ownership over time.

You will be part of a cross-functional team that plans, builds, and ships software. You will build working relationships with product, program management, and support groups so releases land on time and meet demanding customer expectations.

The role calls for a solid technical background, familiarity with Agile, and an understanding of traditional waterfall methods. You will come to understand the requirements and business drivers behind the company's products and solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Help analyze client business requirements to find the best approach for each need, such as existing functionality or a new feature, with guidance from senior team members.
  • Analyze and document well-defined requirements, turning client needs into product-specific or client-specific requirements under review from senior analysts.
  • Create and maintain requirements documentation that explains what is changing and why, from both the client and product perspectives.
  • Use approved AI tools to draft, refine, and standardize requirements documents and user stories. Check all AI-generated content for accuracy and fit with client needs and system behavior before sharing it, and own the quality of the result.
  • Take part in client interviews, workshops, and surveys to learn the what and the why behind their business needs.
  • Learn the product's value and capabilities and help senior analysts guide clients through their decisions.
  • Build strong relationships with the client and project team, working toward being seen as a trusted partner.
  • Spot potential scope changes and raise them quickly with the lead BA or project manager. Join client scope discussions as your skills grow.
  • Answer developer questions and clarify requirements during the build phase.
  • Review test cases and scenarios, and run UAT to confirm solutions meet business requirements.
  • Look into client questions about functionality using test systems, internal AI tools, documentation, or SMEs as needed.
  • Learn the company's systems and grow into a system SME through training, hands-on work on test systems, and time with SMEs and developers.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in a business analyst or similar role. Internships and co-ops count.
  • Exposure to software development teams and projects through work, internships, or coursework.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methods.
  • Ability to write clear documentation.
  • Self-driven, with a strong desire to learn.
  • Fluent English, spoken and written.
  • Preferred: a bachelor's degree in business, information systems, computer science, or a related field.
  • Preferred: exposure to or interest in retail and retail point-of-sale systems.
  • Preferred: experience using AI tools to support writing, research, or analysis.
