AI Platform Engineer

Description

The role is about designing, building and improving software that gives the business, the platform and the technology teams what they need, for customers and colleagues alike.

You will help shape the technology behind critical business services, building resilient, scalable platforms that handle millions of interactions every day.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship high-quality software using mainstream languages, frameworks and tools, writing code that scales, is easy to maintain and runs efficiently.
• Work with product managers, designers and engineers to pin down requirements, choose solution approaches and make sure new work fits the wider system and business goals.
• Review colleagues' code and share knowledge to raise code quality across the team.
• Keep up with technology trends and take part in internal technical communities to build technical depth.
• Write code securely to limit vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
• Write unit tests that check design, readability and reliability.
• If the role carries leadership duties, set direction, plan resources and budgets, define policies and escalate breaches. If you manage people, define roles, plan for future needs, coach on performance and input on pay decisions.
• As an individual contributor, act as the subject matter expert in your discipline, guide technical direction, lead multi-year work and coach less experienced specialists.
• Advise senior and functional leaders on impact and alignment, assess and manage risk, and strengthen controls for your team's work.
• Apply sharp analysis to compare complex options, research deeply and design new solutions to hard problems.
• Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using influence and negotiation to reach business goals.

Requirements

• Solid experience building, deploying and running secure, scalable Kubernetes platforms.
• Practical experience designing, automating and supporting cloud infrastructure and services on AWS and/or Azure.
• Experience deploying and running AI agents or LLM-based services, ideally on Amazon Bedrock, including monitoring, governance, quality assurance and agentic workflows across the delivery lifecycle.
• You may be assessed on risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills.
• Highly valued: experience building or running platforms on OpenShift or a similar enterprise Kubernetes distribution.
• Highly valued: knowledge of AI guardrails, agent evaluation, identity and access control, monitoring and operational assurance.
• Highly valued: experience building automated delivery pipelines, reusable platform capabilities and self-service deployment workflows, using CI/CD, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code and automation.
• Highly valued: experience building self-service platform features, reusable templates, golden paths and developer enablement tooling.
• Highly valued: experience monitoring and optimising AI workload consumption, platform usage and cloud costs.

Conditions

The role is based in Knutsford, Glasgow or Manchester.
