AI/ML Engineer

Description

The company works on national security and defense technology problems for government customers, building capabilities that support operations on the ground.

This is an AI/ML engineering role centered on retrieval-augmented generation and large language model work, with a research component.

Responsibilities

• Build and upkeep RAG pipelines, covering document processing, embedding generation, retrieval setup, and prompt assembly.
• Connect LLMs to applications using existing APIs and frameworks.
• Build and maintain REST API calls that retrieve data and link systems together.
• Deploy and maintain LLMs that the company hosts itself.
• Red team LLMs to test their alignment.

Requirements

• Hold an active TS/SCI and be able to pass a polygraph.
• Bring 8 years of experience with a bachelor's degree, 7 years with a master's, or 6 years with a doctorate.
• Show that you can carry out independent technical research, assess new AI/ML approaches, and solve analytical problems at a level comparable to PhD research.
• Learn new AI/ML methods, tools, and frameworks quickly as mission needs change.
• Have built AI/ML applications centered on RAG, semantic retrieval, LLM integration, or similar AI workflows.
• Be strong in Python and modern AI/ML libraries, frameworks, and API integrations.
• Nice to have: advanced research in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, generative AI, reinforcement learning, computer vision, or a related field.
• Nice to have: published research, open-source AI/ML contributions, or experience leading experimental and prototype work.
• Nice to have: familiarity with model evaluation frameworks, fine-tuning, inference optimization, and AI observability or monitoring tools.
• Nice to have: experience with vector databases, AWS or other cloud environments, Docker, and containerized AI/ML workflows.
• Nice to have: experience designing and integrating REST APIs and scalable data architectures.

Conditions

Pay for this role in Virginia ranges from $175,000 to $225,000 USD.

Final pay depends on factors such as location, federal contract labor category, wage rates, experience, skills, education, and certifications.
