Description

To take part, you must be enrolled at a Spanish university, stay enrolled until the internship ends, and be allowed to sign an internship agreement with that university.

You need to be able to start in February 2027 and stay in the program until June to July 2027.

The company is a fast-growing unit of a larger technology firm that builds industrial 3D printers and materials, and it is pushing the future of digital manufacturing.

The role sits where AI, computer vision and additive manufacturing meet, and it focuses on next-generation industrial 3D printing.

You will partner with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing and Data Science staff to build an AI tool that inspects 3D printed parts visually. It will judge print quality from images and flag manufacturing defects, so quality checks become more consistent, quicker and easier to scale.

The work is practical and based on real industrial problems: setting up image capture, building and labelling datasets, defining defect categories, and training models that spot porosity, bubbles, misalignment, elephant skin and other surface flaws.

The project may start as an internal efficiency tool and later become a customer-facing feature inside future 3D printing workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Set up ways to photograph 3D printed parts that are controlled and repeatable.
  • Create a computer vision dataset by collecting, organising and labelling images.
  • Build deep learning and computer vision models that detect and classify print defects.
  • Compare classification, object detection and segmentation methods to see which works best.
  • Build pipelines for preprocessing, augmentation and data preparation that make models more accurate and reliable.
  • Measure model results and decide how to validate them and what success looks like.
  • Work with quality and manufacturing specialists to learn how defects appear and use that knowledge to improve accuracy.
  • Explore automated inspection, including imaging from several angles, and help shape a tool that could become a customer-facing quality service.
  • Record experiments, datasets, models and development steps, and present your findings to engineering and business leads.

Requirements

  • You are enrolled in a Master's degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, computer vision, robotics or a closely related field, with at least 12 months of study left.
  • You write strong Python and understand machine learning, deep learning and computer vision basics.
  • You have used PyTorch and/or TensorFlow to build models, and Tensorboard and/or MLFlow to track experiments.
  • You know image classification, object detection, segmentation and how to evaluate these models.
  • You have worked with Git and shared codebases in a team.
  • Preferred: You have worked with image datasets, labelling and dataset preparation.
  • Preferred: You have built machine learning datasets from raw data, covering image capture, collection plans, labelling guidelines and quality checks.
  • Preferred: You have used OpenCV and done image processing or image analysis.
  • Preferred: You have worked with detection or segmentation models such as YOLO, Faster R-CNN, DETR, U-Net, Mask R-CNN or similar.
  • Preferred: You know Databricks, cloud machine learning workflows, MLOps ideas and model deployment.
  • You think analytically, solve problems well, pay close attention to detail and stay curious. You can work alone in an exploratory research setting.
  • You communicate and collaborate well, and you can work with mixed teams of specialists.
  • You speak and write English fluently.

Conditions

You can work part-time at 4 hours a day or full-time at 8 hours a day, on a flexible schedule.

The internship lasts between 4 and 12 months.

The paid internship starts in February 2027.

Benefits

  • You are paid for the internship.
  • You work in an international environment with chances to learn, grow professionally and build your network across teams.
  • You join an intern community with career workshops, learning sessions and social events.
  • You get an assigned mentor.
  • You may be invited to join the company's graduate program after the internship.
  • You get discounted lunch in the company canteen.
  • You can use the on-site sports centre, which has a gym, squash, tennis and basketball courts, and more than 25 organised sports and wellness activities such as HIIT, squash, basketball and yoga.
  • You can join the NextGen network of early-career employees, with regular events.
  • You have on-site medical services, including a doctor, nutrition advice, physiotherapy and general healthcare.
  • You get free printing and hands-on workshops with the latest technologies, from large-format prints to 3D printed models.
  • You can park for free or reach the site easily by nearby train.
  • You can take part in the Women Network, with networking events, STEM outreach, business talks, work-life balance sessions and future-skills training.
