Role Overview

The TD Global Technology & Services team is seeking an experienced

Technical Product Owner to lead the development, evolution, and adoption of AI-enabled solutions that improve colleague productivity at TD.

The Technical Product Owner establishes the product vision, roadmap, outcomes, and prioritized backlog for supported products and capabilities. The role combines strong product management with a practical understanding of PDLC and SDLC workflows, DevSecOps, enterprise integrations, operational risk, and AI-enabled decisioning.

Working closely with customers, operations teams, engineering, architecture, business analysts, control partners, and technology delivery teams, the successful candidate will discover operational needs and translate them into valuable, usable, and feasible product capabilities.

The successful candidate must understand the operational environment, lead customer research, make evidence-based product decisions, and exercise sound judgement about where AI and automation should be applied to enhance and speed up end-to-end outcomes.

Success in the role is measured through customer and colleague outcomes, adoption and sustained use, decision quality, operational effectiveness, product reliability, and measurable business value.

Key Accountabilities

PRODUCT

Define and champion the product vision, value proposition, roadmap, and measurable outcomes for AI-enabled operational capabilities

Connect customer needs, Product Group strategy, operational challenges, technology opportunities, and control requirements into clear product direction

In alignment with the product vision, create and maintain a product backlog and continuously re-prioritize work that will provide the most customer or end user value; Balance near-term value with product scalability, sustainability, integration, and strategic alignment

Lead continuous discovery with customers and stakeholders. Develop a deep understanding of user workflows, decision points, pain points, constraints, and unmet needs

Use customer feedback, workflow observation, operational data, telemetry, and product analytics to validate problems, test assumptions, shape opportunities, and continuously improve the product

Continuously align with senior management on the product delivery roadmap, defined Minimum Marketable Features or Minimum Viable Products and release cadence

Proactively engage established business process partners to ensure customers or end users are prepared for application changes and establish Day 2 processes

Own and prioritize the product roadmap and backlog based on customer value, operational risk, strategic alignment, evidence, feasibility, and dependencies

Provide user story design, development and completion oversight; accepting / rejecting user stories based on the agreed upon Definition of Done and Acceptance Criteria

Work with Business Analysts and Business Systems Analysts to translate product intent into coherent business rules, workflows, functional requirements, and testable behaviours

Manage delivery initiatives and oversee development team (pod) backlogs

Proactively raise issues that impede the efficient delivery of customer-focused increments

Responsible for defect management and prioritization

SHAREHOLDER

Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for own business area / journey

Ensure on-going strategic alignment with senior management, providing feedback as appropriate

Understand the internal business and technical environment, proactively defining, aligning or integrating with relevant stakeholders, shared services control groups

Lead the submission and discussion on the Quarterly Business Review, with respect to their product

Proactively manage business stakeholders to obtain inputs needed for product development in a timely manner

Monitor the regulatory environment and partner with the senior management to consider changes to product strategy as needed

Actively coordinate and engage in risk, quality and/or business testing management

Empowered to make product delivery decisions, escalating to senior management as appropriate

Work cohesively with peers to reinforce Agile processes

Compile performance metrics and share with relevant stakeholders

Define the OKRs in partnership with numerous stakeholders across the organization

Protect the interests of the organization- identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard, high risk activities as necessary

Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite

EMPLOYEE / TEAM

Participate fully as a member of the team, support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues/ points of interest

Align the product team around a shared vision, customer problems, priorities, and measurable outcomes.

Provide thought leadership and/ or industry knowledge for own area of expertise in own area and participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit

Keep current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools and techniques

Partner with AI engineers, quality specialists, architects, and control partners to ensure AI-enabled behaviours are evaluated against their intended product outcomes.

Partner with business and technology leaders to align product introduction, workflow changes, communications, learning, and feedback mechanisms. Monitor adoption, sustained use, and points of friction, using evidence to guide product improvements.

Keep others informed and up-to-date about the status / progress of projects and / or all relevant or useful information related to day-to-day activities

Contribute to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship of others, by sharing knowledge and experiences and leveraging best practices.

Lead, motivate and develop relationships with internal and external business partners / stakeholders to develop productive working relationships.

Contribute to a fair, positive and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce

Act as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank, both internally and/or externally

BREADTH & DEPTH

Key subject matter expert professional role requiring substantial knowledge / expertise in a complex field and knowledge of broader related areas

Accountable for specialized product development support based on sound product expertise and knowledge of Agile/Scrum processes, roles and practices

Integrate knowledge of the enterprise sub-function’s or business line’s overarching strategy in developing solutions across multiple functions or operations

Interpret business challenges and the industry environment, recommends course of action and best practices to improve products, processes or services

Lead and integrate cross-function understanding within their own field of specialty, and /or projects with significant resource requirements, risk and / or complexity

Communicate difficult concepts; convert information to compelling business context and advice; influence and gain alignment across increasingly senior stakeholders

Work autonomously as the lead and guide others within area of expertise

Reports into a Product Group Owner

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Undergraduate degree and / or product certificate

7+ years relevant experience

3+ years Product Manager, Product Owner or Agile related delivery experience

Demonstrated experience owning the vision, roadmap, backlog, and outcomes for complex technology-enabled products.

Experience leading continuous discovery and translating complex customer and operational needs into product direction.

Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence senior business and technology stakeholders.

Strong communication, analytical thinking, facilitation, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong knowledge of AI automation, decision support, human oversight, exceptions, and escalation.

Experience owning generative AI, agentic AI, decision-support products, or human-AI workflow design.

Knowledge of continuous delivery, feature flags, observability, rollout strategies, rollback concepts, and operational telemetry.

Experience applying product analytics, customer research, experimentation, and usage data to product decisions.

Experience delivering products in a complex, regulated enterprise.

Understanding of responsible AI, model risk, privacy, security, auditability, and control requirements.

Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification and project management experience considered an asset

Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certifications or experience operating in scaled agile delivery considered an asset

The Product Owner I is responsible to ensure that a development team (pod) is creating value for the organization through the delivery of customer-focused product increments. This entails aligning with other Product Owners and senior management to follow a product vision, creating and maintaining a prioritized product backlog, managing delivery blockers, continuously assessing customer feedback. The Product Owner I should always be considering how to maximize value, assessing how the product or the delivery process can be continuously improved, contributes to a positive work environment and ensures that work embodies the Agile principles of transparency, collaboration and engagement.
