Systems Engineer - Linux/ Yocto

Description

The company provides edge-to-cloud technology that helps customers connect, protect, analyze and act on their data and applications, wherever they run.

The team is building a next-generation network operating system. The work spans the Linux kernel, OS infrastructure and user-space software on x86 and ARM platforms, with a focus on performance, reliability, security and scalability.

Responsibilities

• Write and upkeep Linux kernel, platform and infrastructure code.
• Track down and fix hard bugs, security holes and integration faults across the whole software stack.
• Create and manage Yocto-based distributions, covering layers, recipes, packages and backports.
• Bring up new hardware platforms and help build board support packages.
• Make the system faster and more reliable, and improve automation, testing and developer tooling.
• Work with hardware, platform and software colleagues to ship production-ready results.

Requirements

• Write low-level systems code in C or C++.
• Understand Linux OS fundamentals, data structures and algorithms well.
• Have debugged and modified Linux kernel and user-space components.
• Have worked with x86 or ARM systems, board support package development and hardware bring-up.
• Solve problems and debug methodically, and collaborate well.
• Linux kernel or open-source contributions.
• Experience with eBPF, perf, ftrace or performance analysis.
• Knowledge of Debian or similar packaging systems.
• Preferred: hands-on work with PCIe, SPI, I2C, GPIO, MDIO and interrupt handling.
• Preferred: strong Yocto Project skills, including layer management, recipe development, backporting and package integration.
• Preferred: a solid grasp of compiler optimizations, C/C++ undefined behavior, memory models and how modern compilers exploit those assumptions.
• Preferred: experience with networking protocols and network operating systems.
• Preferred: experience managing patches, backports and conflict resolution.
• Preferred: familiarity with Git and current development practices.
• Preferred: experience with embedded systems and device drivers.

Conditions

This is a hybrid role, with an average of 2 days per week in a company office.
