Description

The company's Space Systems Sector is hiring a Systems Engineer, Level 4, for its team in Redondo Beach, CA.

You will join a scrum team of software and systems engineers that defines the product vision, manages the backlog, and makes sure features support business goals.

The work covers ground segment software for satellites, built in Agile sprints with the Atlassian tool suite, so you must be comfortable working in an Agile setting.

You will work independently with limited oversight in a dynamic, collaborative environment, report progress to leads and the customer, and take on varied assignments.

The team is growing and works on mission-focused software systems that the company has developed for decades.

Responsibilities

  • Drive features for the satellite ground systems domain, reading CAMEO and MBSE models.
  • Join working groups, learn customer needs and interfaces, and turn them into digital artifacts that software teams can build from.
  • Support or lead verification planning, test requirements, and other key deliverables.
  • Cover systems engineering areas including requirements and verification, interfaces, architecture and design, integration, test, and sell-off.
  • Take part in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and reviews while keeping work aligned with product vision and mission goals.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for space-vehicle command and control, and work with other teams and unit-level subsystem engineers.
  • Give demos and briefings to customers and senior leadership.
  • Make sure capabilities, epics, and features integrate smoothly with ground satellite software.
  • Use Atlassian tools, including Jira dashboards and Confluence knowledge bases.
  • Support or lead milestone work and Agile product increments from preparation through execution.
  • Work with several working groups and control boards.
  • Responsibilities may be adjusted to match the selected candidate's skills and experience.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 8+ years of engineering experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM field with 6+ years, or a PhD in a STEM field with 4+ years.
  • Either an active SCI at the time you apply, or an active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance (or equivalent) at application, plus the ability and willingness to obtain and keep an active SCI before start.
  • 2+ years building and reviewing behavioral and structural architecture diagrams with MBSE methods and tools, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years using No Magic Cameo, or equivalent.
  • Experience with space-vehicle, command-and-control, mission management, mission data processing, or software subsystems.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, including writing requirements, test plans, and evaluation criteria.
  • 2+ years producing systems engineering processes and artifacts for software work, such as use cases, interface control documents, class and sequence diagrams, database and schema design, and protocols like REST, HTTP, and RESP, or equivalent.
  • Experience on Agile programs and with Agile methods.
  • Preferred: 3+ years with command-and-control, network management, flight dynamics, or orbit determination for space-vehicle software systems.
  • Preferred: An active SCI at the time you apply and before start.
  • Preferred: Experience with space vehicle subsystems such as thermal, power, attitude control, propulsion, or communications.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with cloud-based architectures, including Kubernetes, containers, and orchestrators.
  • Preferred: Experience working on mission-focused threads.
  • Preferred: Experience with the software development lifecycle.
  • Preferred: Experience with JIRA and Confluence.
  • Preferred: Experience with a geographically distributed team.
  • Preferred: Experience with automated test and integration frameworks, including Playwright.
