Description

This role lets you build your technical career across several disciplines.

You will work from the London office, which hosts company events, customer demos and visitors. The event space has professional live video, audio and streaming equipment.

The job has three parts: Linux and cloud support engineer, owner of the office's technical infrastructure, and a member of the team running live production at events.

You will own cases from first contact to resolution and bring in colleagues or senior engineers when needed. You will keep systems running at the moments that matter most, often with an audience watching.

Professional broadcast or AV experience is not required. Technical curiosity about audio and video systems, and the composure to work in live, high-stakes settings, are essential.

The company is founder-led, profitable and growing, and works as a distributed team with no central headquarters. Most staff work from home, but this role is based in London.

Responsibilities

  • Look after the London office's network, devices, meeting spaces and AV, including setting up new colleagues, and understand how these parts connect.
  • Run the technology for events and customer demos, from set-up and live operation through to tear-down, and coordinate outside crew at larger events.
  • Handle cases by ticket, remote session and live conversation, working with engineering teams to turn code fixes into results for customers. Set clear expectations and meet them.
  • Learn how the Linux distribution is developed well enough to give customers realistic timelines for fixes.
  • Write and update knowledge base articles so lessons learned are shared.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and spoken English, and a clear, warm way of explaining complex technical topics.
  • Strong high school and university results, plus an undergraduate degree in a technical subject, or a convincing account of a non-traditional path.
  • Experience building or running something for others under deadline, such as a home lab, hackspace, student tech crew, live sound or streaming, or school or club IT.
  • Real interest in audio, video and live production, or a clear willingness to learn them.
  • Calm and patience when things get tense, including during a live event, and a genuine wish to help people.
  • A record of going beyond what is asked for teams or customers.
  • Hands-on Linux support experience, plus some of: virtualisation or cloud (KVM, OpenStack), containers (Docker, LXD/LXC, Kubernetes), storage (block, object, network), or networking (bonding, firewalls, bridging, switching, MTU tuning).
  • A troubleshooting approach that works through logs, stack traces, and OS and application-level causes, with basic programming skills in any language.

Conditions

Based at the London office.

The company is an equal opportunity employer that gives every application fair consideration, whatever the applicant's identity.

Benefits

  • Pay takes location, experience and performance into account worldwide, and is reviewed twice a year.
  • A performance-based annual bonus or commission on top of base pay.
  • Additional benefits that reflect the company's values, balanced to meet local needs and keep treatment fair globally.
  • Distributed working, with in-person team sprints twice a year.
  • A learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year.
  • Company recognition rewards.
  • 40 days of annual leave, including public holidays and company-wide holiday periods.
  • Maternity and paternity leave.
  • Team Member Assistance Program and a wellness platform.
  • Opportunities to travel to new locations to meet colleagues, with Priority Pass lounge access.
