Description

The company is hiring a Staff Systems Engineer Architect for its Systems Engineering group within Aeronautics Systems, based in Melbourne, FL.

The role provides senior technical leadership in model-based systems engineering, requirements, and architecture for a complex aerospace system.

The work centres on using Cameo to capture and manage system requirements, functional and physical architectures, and interfaces throughout the program lifecycle.

You will keep the digital system model as the single authoritative source for requirements, behaviors, and interfaces, and work with chief engineers, IPTs, and specialty engineering disciplines to keep the architecture coherent, traceable, and useful for design decisions, mission effectiveness, and verification planning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead requirements development, decomposition, and traceability in Cameo, turning customer and stakeholder needs into system, segment, and subsystem requirements.
  • Build and maintain operational, functional, and physical architectures using SysML and MBSE methods, including use case, activity, sequence, block definition, and internal block diagrams.
  • Bring requirements, behaviors, and interfaces together in one model that supports mission analysis, system design, and verification and validation strategies.
  • Set and enforce modeling conventions and guidelines so contributors and IPTs produce consistent, high-quality work.
  • Coordinate architecture and requirements changes with multidisciplinary teams such as mission systems, avionics, ground systems, communications, and vehicle teams, and record cross-discipline impacts.
  • Produce model-based views and reports for technical reviews such as SRR, PDR, and CDR, showing requirements coverage, interface definitions, and design maturity.
  • Mentor and train engineers who contribute to the model, providing MBSE and Cameo guidance.

Requirements

  • You have a Bachelor of Science in a STEM field and at least 12 years of relevant military or professional experience, or a Master's in a STEM field and at least 10 years of relevant military or professional experience, or a PhD and at least 8 years of relevant military or professional experience.
  • You hold an active US Government Top Secret clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • You have extensive systems engineering experience, especially in requirements development, decomposition, and architecture definition for complex systems.
  • You have hands-on experience with Cameo or MagicDraw, or an equivalent MBSE tool, for SysML modeling, including building and maintaining system-level models.
  • You have led technical teams or work packages and explained complex technical concepts to varied audiences, including customers and senior leadership.
  • Preferred: experience supporting mission planning and ground systems, including defining operational concepts, workflows, and interfaces between air vehicle and ground mission systems.
  • Preferred: experience defining and managing air vehicle requirements, such as performance, mission, avionics, and integration requirements, and capturing them in an MBSE or Cameo model.
  • Preferred: experience with mission systems and communications architectures, including data links, networks, and interfaces between onboard systems, ground segments, and external assets.
  • Preferred: proven use of MBSE or SysML to represent mission threads, mission planning workflows, or end-to-end operational scenarios spanning vehicle, mission systems, and ground systems.
  • Preferred: prior role as a systems engineering or MBSE lead on a large, complex defense or aerospace program, ideally involving air vehicle, mission planning, or communications systems.
