Description

The company makes the company Zero Trust Exchange, a cloud security platform that connects users, devices and applications from any location. It runs across more than 200 public data centers worldwide and thousands of private edge sites, and is described as the largest in-line cloud security platform of its kind.

The team is building an AI-native enterprise in which people work alongside machine intelligence. Core behaviors include ownership and collaboration, trust built through outcomes, and open feedback.

This Staff Software Development Engineer role sits in the Zero Trust Exchange department and reports to the Director, Software Development Engineering. It is based in Santa Clara, CA or remote within the USA, and sits on the company Client Connector team.

The Client Connector protects corporate devices by sending their traffic securely and privately to the company's global network, where advanced web filtering and Zero Trust policies can be applied. Most of the work is in Rust, along with platform-native languages and APIs, building high-performance networking code for several desktop platforms.

You will work on hard problems that come from the scale of the deployment and from the strict quality, performance and security standards of the product, and you will work closely with product managers and other teams on features that affect customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build high-performance networking code for the company Client Connector, mainly in Rust, keeping complexity low
  • Create robust, easy-to-test and well-documented foundations that raise code quality across multiple desktop platforms
  • Investigate complex network issues and fix them using systems programming and security protocols
  • Shape the design of major projects and work closely with product managers and cross-functional teams
  • Raise scale, quality, performance and security problems early, and communicate about them clearly and constructively

Requirements

  • Work well when the path is unclear, building a way forward and treating uncertainty as a chance to make a real difference
  • Take ownership and act quickly, moving between high-level strategy and hands-on delivery to produce high-quality results
  • Build trust within the team by being candid, respectful and open to feedback, so the whole team succeeds together
  • Bring a positive, can-do attitude to hard problems
  • Balance a commitment to technical excellence with a practical habit of building, testing and shipping valuable work in iterations
  • Show curiosity about AI tools and a track record of adopting new technologies to improve daily work and problem-solving
  • At least 5 years of hands-on software development experience, in languages such as C++
  • At least 3 years of coding experience in Rust, especially systems programming and async frameworks such as Tokio and Reqwest
  • Deep experience with networking, particularly tunneling applications and IPv4 and IPv6 transport
  • Optional, preferred: Proven use of AI technologies and workflows to produce measurable gains in operational efficiency
  • Optional, preferred: Experience using AI coding tools across the software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Optional, preferred: Cross-platform development across client operating systems, including macOS, Windows, iOS and Android
  • Optional, preferred: Experience developing in Swift and Objective-C
