Description

Grants bring deadlines, spending limits, reporting duties and commitments that teams in fundraising, finance and HR must track together, which is hard to do well with spreadsheets.

Over 6,000 nonprofits use the platform, from small community groups to state and county governments, universities and local animal shelters.

Early team members help shape its culture and face new challenges as it grows.

This role reports to the Co-founder and Head of EPD and owns GrantOS, the platform every other product area is built on. It is a customer-facing role.

Responsibilities

  • Spend regular time with grant professionals on calls, in their daily workflows and at conferences, until you understand their work better than they could describe it.
  • Turn what you learn into strategy across Platform (data layer, MCP and BI) and Core (Tracker, Tasks, Reports and Integrations).
  • Own GrantOS product strategy end to end and turn it into a roadmap other teams can build against.
  • Make zero-to-one platform direction calls where no playbook exists, and turn ambiguity into decisions the organization can act on.
  • Build a prioritization framework, based on customer and internal research, that the whole GrantOS effort is judged against.
  • Keep the customer's stake visible in platform trade-offs that would otherwise be settled on technical or organizational grounds alone.
  • Define success for a platform layer that customers feel only indirectly, through the products built on top of it.
  • Align the product and engineering teams that depend on GrantOS, and settle competing priorities before they become conflicting roadmaps.
  • Work with engineering leadership on sequencing and trade-offs for platform work with real technical stakes.
  • Set how GrantOS decisions are communicated and adopted, so downstream teams are not caught off guard by platform changes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including time close enough to users to describe their workflow and to reframe a problem before jumping to a feature.
  • A record of choosing which unscoped problem to solve, holding a clear view under pushback, and shipping in thin slices instead of one large release.
  • Sound judgment on when AI beats rules-based or scoring approaches, including designing for trust when stakes are high and checking whether a build works.
  • Ability to set goals with leading and lagging indicators, report honestly on outcomes after launch, and explain complex platform work simply enough to align Design, Engineering, CS and GTM without top-down direction.
  • Entrepreneurial or founder background.
  • Technical fluency, such as SQL, or close experience with data platforms, APIs or BI tooling.
  • 6+ years of experience in total.

Conditions

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, near the Oakland office, and able to be in the office about once a week.
