Description

The research group is developing blood tests that aim to detect many cancers from a single sample of blood.

This role centers on the statistical and machine learning models behind that work.

You will analyze large, mixed genomic datasets from clinical cohorts while working alongside molecular biologists and clinical scientists.

Your work will move from early prototypes to scalable software, then toward clinical validation and use with patients.

The company works in cell-free DNA testing across oncology, women's health and organ health.

Responsibilities

  • Create new statistical and machine learning approaches for detecting cancer signals in multi-modal genomic data.
  • Design models that are interpretable and well calibrated, and set group standards for uncertainty estimates and reproducibility.
  • Build prototypes, test them, and bring production-ready ML models onto scalable infrastructure.
  • Take ownership of major technical deliverables in larger projects and help shape the team's research plan.
  • Plan experiments and validation studies with molecular biologists and clinical experts.
  • Raise technical standards through code and design reviews across projects.
  • Explain complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mentor junior scientists and encourage curiosity, teamwork and high scientific standards.

Requirements

  • Hold a PhD in computer science, mathematics, bioinformatics or another quantitative field, with 6-12 years of experience after the PhD.
  • Have hands-on experience building new statistical or ML methods for complex biological data.
  • Have a record of innovating and leading technically on complex method development work.
  • Bring expertise in deep learning and multimodal foundation models.
  • Program well in Python and its scientific computing libraries.
  • Apply scientific rigor at every stage of R&D, and be keen to teach and learn new computational methods and biology.
  • Communicate well and collaborate easily across teams.
  • Preferred: experience with DNA methylation and other epigenomic data.
  • Preferred: experience with cell-free DNA and liquid biopsy samples.
  • Preferred: background in cancer genomics and diagnostics.
  • Preferred: practical use of multimodal foundation models on biological data.

Conditions

Base pay is a good-faith estimate of what the company expects to offer at hire, and the final figure depends on experience, qualifications and internal equity.

The base pay range is $169,800 to $212,300 USD.
