This Staff DevOps / Infrastructure Engineer role sits on the Infrastructure team, which runs the core infrastructure on Google Cloud with a focus on security, availability, cost and scale.

Each product team releases, operates and monitors its own applications. This team provides the foundation and support those teams build on.

Your daily stack includes Kubernetes (GKE), Terraform, GitLab, Google Cloud managed services such as Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Bigtable, Dataflow and Pub/Sub, self-hosted MongoDB, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Etcd, Victoria Metrics, InfluxDB and Sentry, plus Python and Golang.

Responsibilities

• Work with other engineering teams to design infrastructure, microservice solutions and a reliable, efficient production environment.
• Own the design and specification of infrastructure initiatives and split them into tasks the team can carry out.
• Lead projects that span several engineering teams.
• Automate tools and infrastructure to reduce manual work.
• Monitor applications and join the on-call rotation when required.
• Review design proposals and help developers, including checking application performance and availability.
• Use AI assistants as part of your work and keep full understanding of, and responsibility for, what you ship.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of production experience with Kubernetes, including running clusters 24x7 and understanding what happens beneath deployments.
• At least 5 years of production experience with GCP (preferred), AWS or Azure, including the risks and benefits of public cloud, infrastructure as code, and choosing between managed and self-hosted services.
• At least 5 years of production experience with Python or Go, enough to read code confidently, review AI-generated Python for correctness, security and fit, and build custom tooling.
• Turn loosely defined problems into designs others can build, write design proposals, weigh managed against self-hosted options and review other people's designs.
• Have led projects across several teams, coordinating engineers outside your reporting line from scoping through delivery.
• Take a defined maintenance or project task to completion on your own, and be able to explain every change, including AI-assisted ones.
• Use AI to work faster while you question, verify and steer its output, and stay accountable for what you ship.
• Follow Kubernetes and related technologies closely, for example by reading about them regularly.
• Have taken part in DevOps conferences.
• Have hands-on experience with pod and container security context, network policies, roles and role bindings, pod affinity, host paths, pod disruption budgets, priority classes and node taints, among others.
• Have analyzed resource use of applications on a cluster and changed requests, limits, HPAs or VPAs.
• Understand your clusters in depth, including node pool machine types and why they were chosen, enabled features, cluster version and node autoscaling. Have upgraded cluster versions without disrupting live applications.
• Have written a Terraform module with several interconnected resources.
• Have set up monitoring and alerting. On-duty experience is preferred, as is experience with Grafana and Prometheus.
• Have worked with DevOps, configuration management and CI tools such as Terraform, GitLab, Ansible and Docker.
• Have onboarded and trained new team members.

Conditions

Full-time, working from home or from the Bratislava, Brno or Prague office.

Base salary range of 1 520 000 - 1 900 000 CZK. The offered pay may differ from this range based on skills, qualifications, location, experience, credentials, internal equity and business needs.

Restricted Stock Units or Stock Options, depending on role, seniority and location.
