The AI Solution Architect, Generative and Agentic AI is responsible for defining and guiding the end-to-end architecture of enterprise AI solutions intended for internal use.
This role combines hands-on solution architecture, platform thinking, and technical leadership. You will define patterns across LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), multi-agent systems, and orchestration frameworks while ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, cost-aware, and production-ready.
Operating at the Product Group level, this role establishes the technical vision, architecture principles and reusable patterns that enable multiple AI product teams to deliver coherent, secure, scalable and production-ready AI capabilities. The architect ensures solutions work together effectively, integrate with enterprise platforms and other Product Groups, and align with TD architecture, cybersecurity, data, risk and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
PRODUCT
Define and maintain the Product Group’s technical vision, architecture roadmap, principles and constraints
Design end-to-end architectures for complex, distributed generative AI solutions from concept through production and ongoing enhancement
Key lead in design and/or development of a technology domain architecture strategy, policies, ‘guiding principles’ and standards to govern how technology solutions will be developed and implemented
Research/analyze business requirements to evaluate and recommend optimal solutions within technology architecture
Ensure architectural coherence across product teams and establish clear solution boundaries, integration contracts and technical responsibilities.
Lead detailed solution architecture and design ensuring it meets requirements / complies with the architectural and security standards, patterns and frameworks and provide sign-off on the detailed design
Partner with product leadership to translate business outcomes and product strategy into an actionable technical roadmap and advise on technical opportunities, dependencies, risks and investment trade-offs
Conduct pre and post implementation reviews, ensuring all technical solutions have met business requirements
Establish functional and non-functional requirements covering security, privacy, reliability, scalability, performance, interoperability, maintainability, auditability and cost
Evaluate architecture options based on value, risk, complexity, total cost of ownership and enterprise alignment
Steer the process of development, documentation, communication and execution of a comprehensive strategy, policies and solutions
Resolve cross-team architecture issues and lead integration with enterprise platforms, shared services and other Product Groups

Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for area
Ensure products are compliant with technology domain architecture and design/operate processes to provide ongoing review of in progress activity against technology architecture and development standards
Protect/enhance the security, availability of technology, brand integrity and shareholder value by establishing parameters for continued investment in technology solutions, and providing technical risk analysis / assessment
Identify enhancements and gaps in architectural frameworks, standards and patterns to raise issues for inclusion in future versions
Ensure respective programs/ policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities
Protect the interests of the organization – identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard, high risk activities as necessary
Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
Lead, motivate and develop relationships with internal and external business partners / stakeholders to develop productive working relationships

Develop prototypes, proofs of concept and reference implementations to validate architecture decisions and emerging patterns

Help resolve complex issues spanning solutions, platforms, data and integrations.
Codify reusable patterns, capabilities, decisions, reference implementations and lessons learned
Provide thought leadership and/ or industry knowledge for AI quality engineering best practices and participate in knowledge transfer within the unit
Keep current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools and techniques
Contribute to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship of others, by sharing knowledge and experiences and leveraging best practices; may take on the role of Chapter Lead as applicable

Seasoned individual contributor role with expert knowledge of generative AI solutions domain and a demonstrated track record working with a broad range of architecture frameworks, technology, tools, processes and procedures

Big-picture thinker, with ability to anticipate architectural gaps and identify emerging trends through both advanced business acumen and highly specialized technical knowledge of TD and its applications, programming languages, industry best practices, Bank standards, infrastructure and architectural design / solutions

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate
Graduate degree, preferred
10+ years relevant experience
Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end architecture for high-risk, high-complexity or strategically important solutions.
Significant AI or machine learning solution experience, including recent hands-on work with Generative and Agentic AI.
Experience moving AI solutions from proof of concept into secure, scalable and supportable production use.
Hands-on experience developing prototypes, reference implementations or production components to validate architecture decisions.
Strong knowledge of LLMs, RAG, vector and hybrid search, grounding, agent architectures, tool integration and orchestration frameworks.
Strong understanding of APIs, event-driven integration, distributed systems and modern software architecture.
Understanding of semantic and context architectures, data governance, privacy, security and access controls.
Knowledge of AI evaluation, benchmarking, observability, responsible AI and solution monitoring.
Experience incorporating human review, approval, escalation and fallback mechanisms into AI-enabled workflows.
Requirements
Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Copilot extensibility or comparable enterprise agent platforms.
Experience with multiple commercial and open-source model ecosystems.
Experience implementing agentic or multi-agent systems in production.
Experience with Azure AI, Google Cloud AI or other enterprise AI platforms.
Experience with knowledge graphs, semantic models or enterprise context architectures.
Familiarity with infrastructure as code, CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.
Experience with AI red teaming, adversarial testing or AI security architecture.
Experience contributing to enterprise AI strategy, operating models or architecture practices.
Relevant cloud or architecture certifications.
Design the solution architecture end-to-end, follow enterprise architecture guidelines, leading on projects/products. Lead on project blueprints and design specifications.
Leads development of enterprise architecture frameworks / solutions that supports the most efficient, reliable, scalable, and secure solutions to meet the business needs and technology strategy; this includes planning, evaluating, recommending and designing architectural solutions in compliance with enterprise standards.
