Description

The company builds large-scale material handling systems and is hiring a Solution Development Project Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary teams and work directly with customers on industry-leading solutions.

Your ability to turn complex requirements into workable system concepts will shape both project outcomes and the value customers receive.

The company, part of KION, designs supply chain solutions that run intelligent logistics for commerce worldwide, within a large international group that values collaboration, career growth and real-world impact.

Responsibilities

  • Read customer requirements, RFPs and sales inputs, then design practical material handling and automation solutions you can actually deliver.
  • Produce system concepts, layouts, proposal drawings and supporting documents that spell out the proposed solution.
  • Use your knowledge of material handling, controls, WCS and distribution center operations to build cost-conscious designs.
  • Prepare material lists, scope summaries, cost estimates, change order quotes, cost breakouts and bridging analyses.
  • Write quote requests, assess vendor proposals, and bring in standard subsystems and technologies where they fit.
  • Compare solution options and apply value engineering to balance performance, cost, schedule and risk.
  • Identify assumptions, dependencies and project risks, and plan how to mitigate them.
  • Organise engineering work, priorities, resources and deliverables through the quotation phase.
  • Work with Sales, Engineering, Controls, Software, Procurement, Operations, customers and vendors to agree on solution requirements and scope.
  • Lead pricing reviews for your assigned projects.
  • Help build proposals and customer presentations, explaining scope, assumptions and value clearly.
  • Make sure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and follow Solution Development North America processes.
  • Help hand each proposal over to project execution, clarifying scope where needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement through value engineering, process changes, standardisation and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in material handling, warehouse automation, systems engineering, solution development or a closely related technical field.
  • Background in areas such as construction estimating, project management, mechatronics, systems engineering, controls, applications engineering or industrial engineering.
  • Solid knowledge of material handling systems, warehouse automation technologies and distribution center operations.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, controls architecture, WCS and integrated automation.
  • Experience designing system solutions, preparing estimates, assessing risk and applying value engineering.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the judgement to weigh performance, cost, schedule and risk together.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and work well across functional teams.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, so you can explain technical concepts clearly to customers and colleagues.
  • Experience with ASRS or unit load systems, bulk handling, monorail, structural systems, and conveyor and sortation systems, including case, pallet, linear and crossbelt applications.
  • Experience with PLC controls, WMS or WCS, simulation or modelling tools is an advantage.

Conditions

Travel of up to 10%. Additional travel may be needed during the first 6 to 12 months for training.

The company applies equal employment opportunity in all employment decisions, including hiring, pay, promotion, transfers, leave and training.

Benefits
