Description

The company needs a Solution Architect to lead architecture, governance, automation, operational excellence and strategic direction for its Microsoft 365 collaboration environment.

You will be the technical lead for SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform and related Microsoft 365 collaboration services.

You will work with business leaders, security teams, infrastructure teams and external vendors to design collaboration solutions that are scalable, secure and cost-effective, that meet regulatory requirements and that work well for end users.

The role calls for deep technical skill along with business judgement, leadership, governance and communication ability.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and governance of SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive for Business, Viva Connections and related collaboration technologies.
  • Build and keep up collaboration platform roadmaps.
  • Set standards, best practices and architectural patterns.
  • Assess new Microsoft features and decide how the organization should adopt them.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex platform issues and strategic initiatives.
  • Define and roll out SharePoint governance frameworks, including site lifecycle processes.
  • Plan for storage growth and platform sprawl, and design ways to lower storage costs while staying compliant.
  • Set controls for sharing, permissions and external collaboration.
  • Run archival and lifecycle processes for data belonging to inactive and departed employees.
  • Design and maintain Teams governance policies, including standards for team creation, lifecycle, ownership and guest access.
  • Work with Security and Risk teams to make sure Teams follows corporate policy.
  • Build operational dashboards and reports on Teams adoption and use.
  • Set the governance strategy for Power Apps and Power Automate.
  • Define standards for Dev, Test and Production environments.
  • Implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies.
  • Govern custom connectors, gateways and application ownership.
  • Review and approve the architecture of business-critical platform solutions.
  • Find manual operational work that can be automated and design the solutions, using Power Automate, Azure Functions, Logic Apps and custom APIs and integrations.
  • Work with engineering and operations teams to improve service delivery and efficiency, and build reusable operational frameworks and automation patterns.
  • Produce executive dashboards and operational reports covering platform health, adoption, utilization, governance metrics and storage use.
  • Use data and analytics to support decisions.
  • Partner with internal business leaders and technology teams, and work with external vendors and managed service providers.
  • Hold teams accountable for service delivery and operational improvements, and take part in strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Make sure collaboration platforms meet corporate security standards, data governance rules, regulatory requirements and records management policies.
  • Work with Identity, Security and Risk teams on security controls, and support audits and compliance reviews.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, information systems or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience architecting Microsoft platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience administering and architecting Microsoft 365 collaboration solutions.
  • Experience supporting large enterprise environments, ideally with 10,000+ users.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide governance initiatives.
  • Experience working in complex global organizations.
  • Required skills: SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft 365 administration, Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Purview, Azure, PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API.
  • Preferred skills: Azure Functions, Logic Apps, ShareGate, Viva Suite, ServiceNow integration and data governance technologies.
  • Strategic thinking, solution architecture and design, executive communication, vendor management, stakeholder engagement, problem solving, data-driven decision making and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to influence people who do not report to you.
  • Success will mean stronger governance across Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms, fewer platform risks and inefficiencies, more automation and self-service, lower storage and licensing costs, successful M&A and divestiture collaboration work, better reporting and compliance visibility, and being a trusted advisor across the enterprise.
