Description

The company is hiring a software engineering manager to lead the software engineering group within its Information Systems team. The role suits a hands-on people leader who has built and run a high-performing full-stack team delivering critical internal software and platforms, and who works to remove manual and repetitive work across the company.

The Information Systems team runs custom software, vendor software, data platforms and automated tools that help other teams work faster, help the factories build efficiently, and help launch teams run smoothly. You will hire and develop the engineers building these systems, set the technical standard, and work with Product Management and business stakeholders to turn the Information Systems roadmap into reliable software people actually use. This is a player-coach role, so you will spend a real share of your time designing, reviewing and building with the team.

The role is hybrid and requires working on site at the San Jose, CA office three days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and grow a team of full-stack engineers who build the company's internal software, platforms and integrations. You will manage the full employee lifecycle, from hiring and onboarding to development and performance reviews.
  • Plan headcount and resourcing so the organization can keep up with business growth and several projects running at once.
  • Set high standards for code quality, design review, testing, security and operational reliability, and drive the team to meet them.
  • Work with the Information Systems Product Manager and stakeholders in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance and Mission Operations to turn the roadmap into team goals, plans and delivery commitments. Share those goals both inside and outside the team.
  • Own internal software delivery from initial concept through deployment, adoption and ongoing support for internal customers.
  • Stay hands-on by contributing to architecture, technology choices and code review, and writing code when the team needs help.
  • Lead buy-versus-build decisions and the engineering work to integrate core systems such as ERP, PLM, MES and Supply Chain tools, so data and handoffs between functions run automatically.
  • Introduce and maintain processes, tools and infrastructure, including CI/CD, observability and AI-assisted development, that make the team's design and delivery faster.
  • Build an inclusive, collaborative culture that supports high productivity and room to grow.

Requirements

  • A B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years on high-performing software teams, including substantial full-stack (frontend and backend) development.
  • 3+ years of direct management of software engineers, with a record of building and leading a high-performing team while still writing code.
  • Experience owning complex software systems from design through production, ideally internal tools, enterprise software or business systems.
  • Working knowledge of Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, modern frontend frameworks such as React, relational databases such as PostgreSQL, and REST or GraphQL API design.
  • Experience building and delivering technical roadmaps with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • You do well in a rapidly changing environment and enjoy new challenges every week.
  • Nice-to-have: experience integrating with or extending enterprise platforms such as ERP (for example SAP S/4HANA), PLM, MES, HRIS or ATS.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with cloud platforms (Google Cloud preferred), containerized deployments and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Nice-to-have: experience delivering software in export-controlled or compliance-driven environments.
  • Nice-to-have: experience applying AI/ML to automate business workflows.
  • Nice-to-have: experience in modern space systems or hardware manufacturing.
  • Nice-to-have: proven success in a high-growth startup.
